The Monaco Grand Prix – Where legends are made

It’s that time again!

The F1 Monaco Grand Prix is upon us with all its glamour, history and its fair share of controversy. This year it’s gearing up to be even more spectacular than ever. Expect some fireworks between Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton, more good stuff from Max Verstappen as he takes the new improved Red Bull Racing car around the streets of the Principality and also don’t forget that Ferrari need to bounce back after they scored another own goal, in terms of strategy, back in Spain.

So how good this track really is?

Nelson Piquet once said that racing in Monaco is ‘like trying to cycle round your living room’. Fasten your seat belt and sharpen your senses as we follow the GOAT around the streets of Monaco.

Controversy – Who remembers these 2 incidents?

Rewind to 2006 and we find Michael Schumacher doing Schumacher things. Having set the fastest time in qualifying, he casually parks his car in the Rascasse corner preventing Fernando Alonso to snatch pole in the closing stages. Was it avoidable? Judge for yourself.

‘I’ve lost this race, haven’t I?’

9 year later, Mercedes blunder destroyed Lewis Hamilton’s Monaco GP. One of the most iconic Formula 1 team radio was heard that day, as a dejected Hamilton did the math quite quickly as he sat behind the 2 guys we has previously comfortably leading. Moments earlier, he just pitted under the safety car only to handle the win to his team mate Nico Rosberg. Relive those agonizing moments below.

During this decade, the Monaco Grand Prix has turned into a borefest and one can argue how is this still a thing, but along its 70 year plus existence, there were plenty of good moments. If we had to pick the best one, then it’s this gem.

Fired up for this year? Bet you are.
