Two of German football’s heavyweights meet in the semi-final of the DFB Cup on Wednesday evening, both hoping to beat their rival on the road to the final. The winner of this tie will meet either Borussia Monchengladbach or Eintracht Frankfurt in the final.

Despite leading the Bundesliga by eight points, Bayern have struggled in recent weeks and are without a victory in all competitions since beating Dortmund 4-1 earlier this month. On that occasion, goals came from Franck Ribery, a brace from Robert Lewandowski and Arjen Robben, with Raphael Guerreiro getting Dortmund’s only goal of the game. Since then however, they’ve drawn two games in the Bundesliga, against Mainz and Bayer Leverkusen, and they lost in the quarter finals of the Champions League. Elimination from the Champions League only adds to the already high levels of pressure on Carlo Ancelotti and he knows that his team needs to win this semi-final.

On the other hand, Dortmund come into this game having won their last two Bundesliga matches. They beat Borussia Monchengladbach 3-2 on Saturday, with goals coming from Marco Reus, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Guerreiro. Saturday’s victory followed up a 3-1 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt. However, like Bayern, Dortmund have also been eliminated from European competition, losing 6-3 on aggregate to Monaco.

Bayern Munich vs. Borussia Dortmund Predictions

There’s not much separating these two teams and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Dortmund win this game. Unlike the league season, this is a one-off game and Bayern have struggled in recent weeks.
