The transfer market is open and this summer could see a merry-go-round of big names, hoping to impress in a World Cup year.
We’ve had a look at some of the players in question and have assessed where they could be playing their football next season.
To Stay at Liverpool
It’ll be interesting if he stays at Liverpool, despite the odds saying that this is what he’s most likely to do. Jurgen Klopp has criticised him for not playing through pain, but when he does play, he scores goals. He’s the kind of player that if sold, could come back to haunt Liverpool in the future. As always though, any suitor will be taking a huge gamble on his fitness.
Paris St. Germain
Sturridge has played for a number of top Premier League clubs now and although many are looking for a striker, it’s unlikely that any will be tempted by him. Therefore a move abroad could be a good idea if he thinks he’s exhausted all of his options in England. PSG are a top team in Europe, looking to regain their Ligue 1 title, while also hoping for success in the Champions League. A successful spell in France could end doubts over his fitness.
West Ham
The Hammers are in the market for a new striker and were linked with Sturridge in January and earlier in the summer. However, they’ve started looking at other targets, including Arsenal’s Olivier Giroud, which might mean that interest has called in the Liverpool centre forward. On top of that, they’ve already got two injury-prone strikers at the club. Would they want to sign another one?
Southampton
Southampton struggled for goals last season and it would be somewhat ironic if a Liverpool player joined them, rather than the other way around. There’s a strong English core of players on the south coast, but they’ve been missing a figure upfront since Graziano Pelle left last year. Sturridge would be a big name signing if they want to become regulars in European competition.
Newcastle
They may have just been promoted to the Premier League, but Newcastle are a sleeping giant in English football. Sturridge has the experience of performing in front of a passionate home crowd of 50,000 people each week and he could be a big statement signing and would show that the Magpies mean business this season. His Premier League experience would ensure that he begins the season as their first choice centre forward.
