Hopefully the first two days were absolutely scintillating from a betting and watching point of view. The top-class racing doesn’t end on Wednesday though, there are another three days of action-packed races left to go!
The third day is traditionally known as Ladies’ Day and the highlight is the Gold Cup, which is probably the best race of the whole week.
So many top-class horses have won this race down the years and it looks to be another cracker on the cards!
Here are our best tips for day three:-
1.15 Golden Gates Handicap 1m 2f
Following on from Wednesday’s devilishly difficult handicaps, we have another one to begin on Thursday.
The favourite is Acquitted (5/1), who looks set to be in contention. His form is good and the horse is clearly improving. But will there be one too good for him?
Further down the betting list, we stumble across Grand Rock. This horse had excellent from as a two-year-old and is trained by the shrewd William Haggas. He could be one to beat the favourite.
OUR TIP: Grand Rock – 14/1
1.50 Wolferton Stakes (Listed Race) 1m 2f
Sixteen runners line up for the second race of day three, the Wolferton Stakes.
There seem to be three horses here who are strong in the market. Fox Tal (11/4), Sir Dragonet and Regal Reality (4/1) are the shortest prices runner by some way and the preference is with Sir Dragonet, who can give Aiden O’Brien another Royal Ascot winner.
OUR TIP: Sir Dragonet – 4/1
2.25 Jersey Stakes (Group 3) 7f
A race for upcoming three-year-olds sees Frankie Dettori’s mount, King Leonidas, installed as favourite. He has looked smart in his two races to date, winning handsomely on both occasions, and he is the horse to beat.
His biggest market rival is Molatham (11/2). He last ran in October when fourth in a hot race at Newmarket and presents as a danger. However, it looks as though Dettori is on a good thing here.
OUR TIP: King Leonidas – 7/2
3.00 Chesham Stakes (Listed Race) 7f
Only nine runners in this race but this is another competitive affair and all the runners have a chance of lifting this valuable prize.
The favourite is Modern News (3/1) and he won impressively on his debut and comes into this with a big opportunity. Bright Devil (4/1) has similar credentials to Modern News and is sure to run well. Battleground, however, is our pick. Aidan O’Brien has a habit of winning these types of races over the years at Ascot and he rates his horse highly.
OUR TIP: Battleground – 3/1
3.35 Gold Cup (Group 1) 2m 4f
The crowning jewel in Royal Ascot’s crown is here! The Gold Cup has long been one of the great races in the Flat racing calendar.
Stradivarius (4/7) comes into this race as the rightful favourite. He ran pleasingly on his seasonal reappearance at Epsom and, to be honest, we back him to win again.
To finish runner-up to him is the harder bet so back Technician each way. He had good form last season and he can run Stradivarius close….but not close enough.
OUR TIP: Technician E/W – 13/2
4.10 Britannia Stakes (Handicap) 1m
Two very tricky handicaps close the curtain on day three of Royal Ascot 2020.
The two market leaders, Finest Sound and Enemy (6/1), have big chances to take this prestigious race. The former won convincingly on his only start this season and Enemy is highly rated by trainer John Gosden. We think Finest Sound just edges out Enemy and he is the one we are on.
For a bigger price, keep an eye on Dance Fever (12/1). Unbeaten in three starts, he should run really well.
OUR TIP: Finest Sound – 13/2
4.40 Sandringham Stakes (Handicap) 1m
African Dream (9/4) is the warm favourite for this final race of the day. He is with John Gosden but we think he is beatable.
We really like the chances of Soffika, ridden by Ryan Moore and trained by Sir Michael Stoute. Moore and Stoute have had a long and successful history at this meeting and we think Moore can get a winner on the board for his old boss.
OUR TIP: Soffika – 6/1
