There are a number of impressive strikers and attacking midfielders heading across Europe for the European Championships this summer, all vying for the coveted Golden Boot.
Here at NetBet, we’ve got a number of markets for the upcoming Euro 2020 competition, which was delayed by a year due to the pandemic. One of the most exciting bets for fans at every major international tournament is the outright market for top scorer, and we’ve got you covered with some great prices on the NetBet Euro 2020 page.
England’s Main Man
Harry Kane got it at the 2018 World Cup, and we have him marked as our favourite for this year as well. He’s priced at 5/1, which seems like great odds given his proficiency in front of goal at both club and international level. He has said that the England team are in a ‘better place’ than they were heading to the World Cup three years ago, which is exciting for fans of the Three Lions considering how agonisingly close they came to a spot in the final in Russia. Kane was the Premier League golden boot winner, which is an incredible feat considering the struggles going on at his club Spurs this year. They had a very subpar season, but that didn’t stop Kane from hitting the net 24 times and beating out Mohammed Salah on the final day. With the Spurs man in charge of spot kicks for England, he does seem a good bet and this early we actually like the price as well.
Who else could be Top Goalscorer?
Elsewhere, we’ve got Romelu Lukaku at 6/1. He scored 24 goals as well this season, for a similarly struggling AC Milan side who were miles off the pace that Inter set in Serie A this year. Lukaku will be given phenomenal service in the Belgium team, particularly from the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, who is one of the best passers of the ball in football at the moment. Belgium also have a game with Finland in their group stage, which could end up being a goal fest for the Belgians, and as such Lukaku. He also takes penalties, which is important to take into account when looking at this market, but to be honest, we don’t think he’s worth a 6/1 pricetag.
Interestingly, Euro 2016 top scorer Antoine Griezmann is a massive 22/1 price to retain his trophy, despite the France team with which he is playing at the moment and the level they are playing at nowadays. It is understandable given the return of top striker Karim Benzema, and the phenomenal goal scoring prowess of Kylian Mbappe, who would be expected to take the penalties if they were to get them at this tournament. Benzema is 12/1, while Mbappe, who is considered one of the best players in the world at the moment, is an intriguing 17/2. We like both of those prices, and definitely could see them worth a look. One price that does surprise us is Cristiano Ronaldo at a pretty sizable price of 12/1. He was the top scorer in this season’s Serie A and will be the big goal threat for Portugal in their return to the big tournament. Even if they struggle in the groups, there’s a good chance he goes on a tear against Hungary, and sets himself up nicely for the tournament, similarly to how Harry Kane did in the World Cup. Of all the different bets we’ve seen, we definitely like Ronaldo at this price the most, although Harry Kane also seems good value at 5/1 for England assuming they have a decent tournament, and even make the quarter-finals.
