England v Ukraine Preview
Gareth Southgate’s men will be hoping to avoid a repeat of Euro 2016 when they head to Rome for this massive match with underdogs Ukraine in this pivotal Euro 2020 last-eight encounter.
They just put Germany to the sword at Wembley Stadium, but the memories of losing to massive underdogs Iceland at the last European Championships will be fresh in the memory, and they’ll be desperate not to repeat it.
To do that, they’ll need to be a bit more ambitious than they were from the start against Germany, and Jack Grealish must start.
It remains to be seen if Harry Kane finally hitting the net will lead to a rich vein of form in the run-in, but it certainly can’t hurt, and another strong Raheem Sterling performance could be vital for the English.
For Andriy Shevcehnko’s men, it’ll have to be more of the same from their win over Sweden; keep it tight and get them on the break.
England v Ukraine Betting Odds
The oddsmakers have essentially given Ukraine no chance at all of going through, making them gigantic underdogs for what is essentially a two-horse race.
Remember that this is a knockout game, so if it goes to extra-time and/or penalties and the team you have backed to win goes through, you have still lost the bet. You must bet on the ‘to qualify’ market to back a team to go through via any method.
Ukraine are 8/1 for victory (7/2 to qualify), with the draw a 7/2 shot and the English named as gigantic favourites at a price of 5/13 (1/5 to qualify).
England v Ukraine Betting Tips
Odds are correct at the time of publication and are subject to change.
Ukraine to win – 8/1
There are only three possible outcomes, and not to get too clichéd about it, but this is knock-out football. Ukraine certainly have the ability to win this game, and if they do it could stand to make people who back them a massive amount of money.
England to win by two goals – 13/5
We’re going for just a flat repeat of the Germany game, although this one could end up being 3-1 as well. However, it does seem that England will want to keep their brilliant clean sheet record intact, so 2-0 would be a good score for them.
Raheem Sterling to score anytime – 2/1
Given his form to this point in the tournament, this seems like free money to us. Sterling will be looking at that Golden Boot list, seeing that Ronaldo and Benzema are gone and might even fancy getting himself to the top of the list with a couple in this one. Harry Kane at evens is also a bet worth taking a look at in this market.
