Our expert tipster has cast their eye over the third weekend of Premier League Fixtures taking place on the week ending August 29th. He’s picked some of the best bets available on NetBet Sport football odds page.
Man City to beat Arsenal – 4/13
Mikel Arteta must have been absolutely devastated as he headed to the first training session after Arsenal’s opening night loss to Brentford. Within days of losing that first game of the year, they had to take on Champions League winner Chelsea and then the week after that the Premier League winners of the previous season in Manchester City. Guardiola’s men didn’t start too hot either against Spurs, but they flew out of the traps to hammer Norwich in their sophomore outing to remind fans that they are very much still planning on defending their title and building on last season’s double. Unfortunately for Arsenal fans, we struggle to envisage a scenario where they don’t open the season with three losses, which would be a disaster for Arteta.
Brighton to draw with Everton – 9/4
This is what some fans refer to as a sleeper match. Neither Everton nor Brighton are teams you would generally consider to be sides the casual viewer is dying to tune in for, but we reckon this could end up being an absolute cracker. Everton drew and won their opening two, while Graham Potter’s team, at least on first glance, seem to have discovered a way to beat the teams with whom they struggled to get those three points against last season. We could be in for a cracking little game here, with Brighton actually relatively sizable 27/20 favourites and Everton 2/1. We’re going for the draw by the seaside, because we find it very difficult to split these two sides.
West Ham to beat Crystal Palace – 4/7
We really fancy West Ham here given their explosive start to the season. They managed to dominate both Newcastle United and Leicester City to get a winning start to their season, and the only concern is that they perhaps take the foot off the gas slightly when facing an unfancied Crystal Palace side. The visitors to the Olympic Stadium on Saturday were handily beaten by Chelsea and drew with new boys Brentford in their opening couple of games, and in those 180 minutes of football they haven’t indicated much of a killer instinct in front of goal to us where they could take advantage of any of the flaws West Ham have shown us. This could be a sizable win for the Hammers.
Aston Villa to draw with Brentford – 51/20
There is value all over this game – because it is just that unpredictable. Brentford have yet to lose in their opening two games, a sentence which probably would have stunned many to hear after being told they had to kick off their first top flight appearance in over five decades with the visit of Arsenal. But they’ve shown us a lot of really impressive stuff thus far, and we think they have what it takes to put it on Villa, who at evens are also really worth a look. Brentford at 51/20, but as we imagine will be the case a lot this year, it’s tough to tell people to bet on them getting the big victory. A draw actually does seem like the most likely outcome here, and not just us being unable to split the teams.
Newcastle to beat Southampton – 33/20
What a difficult game to call, but we think that the home advantage at St James’ Park will make a huge difference and sway this one for Newcastle. They’ve started the season the best way that a team with two losses can, putting in solid performances against West Ham and Aston Villa, before exiting the League Cup on penalties against Burnley during the week. We recon they just need one big performance to get on their way to a strong season, and last year’s FA Cup finalists may be just the team, in front of the home fans, that they do it against.
Leicester to beat Norwich – 10/13
Neither of these sides have set the heather alight so far this season, but we still reckon Leicester should have far too much in their arsenal to be troubled by a team like Norwich. We’re not expecting a classic here from two teams who have struggled thus far, but we fancy a decent Leicester City performance to hopefully give them the kickstart they need for the season. Big opportunity away from home against Norwich for them after winning on opening day before getting soundly put away by Leicester City in the second game of the year. We reckon a Leicester City win in your acca is a solid bet.
Chelsea to beat Liverpool – 9/5
This is another absolute cracker of a game on Saturday evening at Anfield. Two sides with definite title ambitions, but somebody’s winning run to the season will end this weekend. Chelsea have looked impressive so far this year since winning the UEFA Super Cup, while Liverpool haven’t looked too shabby themselves against admittedly not incredible opposition in Norwich and Burnley. However, given what we’ve seen of Chelsea so far this year, we’d be irresponsible not to tell you to back them against anyone in the world when the price is 9/5.
Tottenham to beat Watford – 20/51
It’s been an interesting start to this season for Spurs under new manager Nuno Espirito Santo, but they have yet to stop winning. They looked really impressive against Manchester City most recently, and defeated Nuno’s old side Wolves in their sophomore game with a less than impressive showing. Spurs aren’t always a side you can count on to beat the easier teams, so expect them to struggle a little bit, but we’d be very surprised if Watford were able to cause them too much trouble this weekend.
Leeds to beat Burnley – 5/4
We understand why the odds are so wide in this one, because it is very difficult to call, but we really like this price. Burnley are no great shakes, and Leeds will really want to get a win on the board after a bit of a disaster start against Manchester United, which they slightly rectified in their second match of the year against Everton.
Man United to beat Wolves – 10/13
United flew out of the traps with a win against Leeds, but then they struggled away with a result against Southampton last time out, so we understand how this price is so close to evens. On paper, this isn’t much of a game, but we believe that Wolves have what it takes to put it on Manchester United. However, we’d be very surprised if it was enough to get the win over the Northern giants.
