The league seasons of the top teams in Europe are all now well underway, and there will be some scintillating action across the .
Just before we headed off for the international break, we told you that in La Liga, Real Madrid were the team to beat. Well, Espanyol became the first team to do that this season, and now they won’t have a chance until next week’s Clasico with Barcelona to get back in the win column. This week, the action kicks off with Levante v Getafe in one of just two Saturday games, the second of which is Real Sociedad v Mallorca. Sunday is the big game day with four matches including Rayo Vallecano v Elche, Celta Vigo v Sevilla, Villareal v Osasuna and finally Barcelona v Valencia. There are two games, Alaves v Real Betis and Espanyol v Cadiz, on Monday evening.
Over in Ligue 1, we kick off with a big game in Paris as PSG play host to Anger in a game that pits the almost unbeatable table toppers against the plucky fourth place outfit. There are two cracking games on Saturday as Clermont take on Lille and Lyon face Monaco. Then it’s a super Sunday with seven games, the highlight of which is either Strasbourg v St-Etienne or Marseille facing Lorient. Other games include Brest v Reims, Bordeaux v Nantes and Montpellier v Lens.
In Germany, most of the action takes place on Saturday afternoon, but the standout game is the following day as Bayer Leverkusen take on Bayern Munich in what is sure to be one of the games of the weekend in European Football. Saturday afternoon is where we’ll see Union Berlin host Wolfsburg and Freiburg welcome Leipzig in two big matches. There is one game on Friday night between Hoffenheim and Koln, and two on Sunday, the second of which is Augsburg v Arminia Bielefeld.
The Serie A action this weekend sees a fascinating tie between Lazio and Inter Milan, amidst other brilliant fixtures. AC Milan take on Verona at the San Siro on Saturday evening, while Cagliari will host Sampdoria and Specia face Salernitana. The stand-out fixture of the weekend, however, is definitely Juventus hosting Roma on Sunday night in Turin. Napoli v Torino on Sunday evening is also a sleeper tie, as is Monday night’s Venezia v Fiorentina game under the lights
