Man City vs Wolves Football Preview
City will go into this game as league leaders, having put together five consecutive wins since their 2-0 defeat to Crystal Palace. Although they have the joint best defensive record in the league, City have conceded in each of their last five games in all competitions, something which perfectionist Pep Guardiola will be hoping to put right.
They face a Wolves team that are severely lacking in front of goal. Despite only conceding once in their last four fixtures, they have also only scored once, and are on a run of three games without finding the net.
This is a game which could be won in the middle of the park. Leander Dendoncker will likely be deployed alongside Ruben Neves to protect the back-line, whilst the latter will be tasked with making what little possession Wolves have count. When defending, Bruno Lage’s side will settle into a 5-4-1 shape, something which Pep is used to seeing from opposition.
Bernardo Silva and Ilkay Gundogan will play between the lines, whilst City’s inverted full-backs will plug the spaces in midfield. It doesn’t look like it will be a particularly high scoring affair based off how we expect Wolves to play. They are comfortable defending deep and will attempt to launch rapid transitions through Adama Traore.
We have seen many teams attempt to play like this against City, but eventually they find a way through. NetBet’s win probability counter gives the home team an 82% chance of victory, whilst a draw has a likelihood of 13%, and an away win just 5%.
We’ve taken a look at the odds and picked our favourite bets ahead of this weekend’s match-up at the Etihad.
Man City vs Wolves Football Odds
It was the 2019/20 season in which Wolves won both of the meetings between these two, snatching a 2-0 win at the Etihad. The bookies think history is unlikely to repeat itself and have priced the visitors at 15/1. City have looked impressive this season and that is reflected in the odds. A home win is priced at 2/13, whilst a draw can be backed at 13/2.
Man City vs Wolves Betting Tips
*Odds are correct at the time of publication and are subject to change.
Man City win 1-0, 2-0, 3-0 – 11/10
City haven’t kept too many clean sheets of late, but they have still looked dominant defensively. It’s not a good match up for a Wolves side struggling in front of goal – Norwich are the only team to score fewer. We expect to see a comfortable City victory.
Tie/Man City and Under 2.5 – 6/1
We like the look of this half-time/full-time bet because of how we think Wolves will approach the game. They will sit deep and try to stay in the game for as long as possible. We think they will be difficult to break down, and could make it to the half without conceding, but eventually City will breakthrough. A low scoring affair, but one which City will get the better of.
Bernardo Silva to score first – 7/2
Silva is one of the most in-form players in the league right now and has scored three in his last two. The Portuguese midfielder always seems to pop up in the right place and has a clinical eye for goal. There’s every chance he could improve on his tally of seven this weekend.
