A new year means the FA Cup third round is upon us. With the big boys entering the draw, there is the potential for giant killing, and with the spirit of the cup well and truly alive, will we see another romantic cup run? We’ve picked out some of the best FA Cup bets available on NetBet Sport’s football odds page to help you win some money this weekend.
Fulham to beat Bristol City – 20/29
Although this is the early stages of the Cup, both of these teams will be looking at this game as an opportunity. We’re sure there will be some rotation from the first eleven, but we wouldn’t be surprised to see both fielding fairly strong outfits in this match-up. Fulham have faltered in the league in recent weeks, failing to win in their last five. Marco Silva will be looking to for his players to gain some momentum and confidence that they can take into their push for automatic promotion. The visitors will likely have too much quality on the day and should advance.
Crystal Palace to beat Millwall – 21/20
This is a South London derby which has provided some feisty affairs in the past. Although most players won’t have participated in too many thanks to Palace’s run in the top flight, the crowd certainly won’t let those on the field forget what is at stake. Patrick Vieira is likely to rotate more than Gary Rowett, but that could involve giving minutes to the likes of Michael Olise, Eberechi Eze and Jean-Philippe Mateta, who have all impressed in glimpses. Even with changes, the Eagles will possess more quality, but the Lions won’t go down without a fight. This should be one of the more exciting clashes in the FA Cup third round.
Boreham Wood to beat AFC Wimbledon – 57/20
This isn’t necessarily a giant killing in the true sense of the phrase, but if there’s going to be an upset, we can see it happening at Meadow Park. After 23 games in all competitions since the start of the season, Boreham Wood have lost just twice, both of which were away from home. They boast the best defensive record in the National League and have kept five clean sheets in their last seven league games. They will welcome an AFC Wimbledon side that sit 18th in League One and have lost seven of their last 10 away games in all competitions. It will be a hard fought game and Boreham Wood will be confident they can upset the odds on home soil.
QPR to draw with Rotherham – 51/20
QPR are in decent form and currently sit in 5th place in the Championship, but the temptation to rest regular starters may give the visiting Rotherham the opening they’re looking for. The away side have lost just once in their last 18 league games and sit top of League One after winning 12 of those games. 30 year-old striker Michael Smith looks set to make this his most productive individual campaign to date, having already netted 14 times in 23 league games. It will be a difficult task to overcome Rangers at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium, but they will give it their best shot, and we can see them forcing it to extra time.
Bournemouth to beat Yeovil – 10/27
Yeovil have had a fairly average time in the National League this season, sitting in 11th place and seven points off the play-offs. They face a tricky visit from Championship leaders Bournemouth, who have enough quality throughout their squad to rotate with little consequence. They have the best away record in the league this season and Scott Parker will be looking to get the job done at Huish Park with little to no fuss. Despite struggling a little towards the back-end of 2021, the visitors got things back on track with two wins and two clean sheets against QPR and Cardiff between Christmas and New Year. We don’t have much hope for Yeovil in this tie.
Arsenal to beat Nottingham Forest – 5/7
Despite sitting just six points adrift of the Championship play-offs, Forest haven’t enjoyed their best results at City Ground – their home record ranks 19th. We can expect Mikel Arteta to heavily rotate, but that won’t make things much easier for the home side. A lot of the Gunners’ top prospects have already secured their spots in the starting XI, meaning we could see the likes of Emile Smith-Rowe, Nicolas Pepe and Albert Sambi Lokonga starting for Arsenal. Forest will give it their best for the home fans, but we can’t see them causing the visitors too many problems.
