Man United vs Aston Villa Football Preview
If you’ve watched United since the arrival of Rangnick, you’ll know they are performing poorly, despite a decent run of results. A first defeat for the interim manager had been coming, and they were deservedly beaten at Old Trafford by a classy Wolves side.
Aston Villa’s worst result under Steven Gerrard came in their last outing against Brentford. Although they were on the end of a 2-1 defeat to the Bees, Villa’s performance was good enough to earn them at least a draw, and they probably would have claimed all three points if it were for some better finishing.
The performance levels of these two sides have been hugely contrasting, but an opportunity for rotation will give some periphery talent a look in for United. Rangnick will likely make seven or eight changes, and this could be the breath of fresh air the German is looking for in his squad.
The likes of Donny Van De Beek and Jesse Lingard will be desperate for a chance to impress, and it wouldn’t be too surprising to see some of United’s youth prospects feature. Performances couldn’t get much worse than they have been in recent games, and the inclusion of players ready to make an impact could be the best thing that’s happened for Rangnick.
Due to the home advantage, NetBet’s win probability counter gives United a 62% chance of winning, compared to a 22% chance of a draw and 16% likelihood of an away win.
Man United vs Aston Villa Football Odds
Although Villa were victorious when these two met in the league earlier this season, the bookies don’t expect to see the same in the FA Cup, and the visitors are priced at 9/2. The Red Devils can be backed to turn things around at 10/21, with a draw priced at 3/1.
Man United vs Aston Villa Betting Tips
*Odds correct at the time of publication and are subject to change.
Aston Villa Win – 9/2
It’s impossible to ignore the value in this based on how these two sides are performing. If Villa can get themselves in front, they have every chance in holding out to upset the odds at Old Trafford, as they’ve already done once this season.
Both Teams to Score – 5/6
Villa have scored in 12 of their last 14, and will be confident in unlocking this shaky United backline. The home side will also be confident in getting amongst the goals, with bundles of attacking talent in the squad.
Man United 2-1 – 7/1
It remains to be seen how much Gerrard will rotate, but United have quality sitting on the bench week after week that will be desperate for an opportunity. After all the criticism, surely the home side can’t be a lacklustre as they were against Wolves. It won’t be easy, and we could see Rangnick’s side stumbling over the line.
