With PSG sure to maintain their Ligue 1 lead against 16th place St. Etienne this weekend, there is a huge clash below the French giants as Nice and Strasbourg battle it out for a spot in next year’s Champions League. Strasbourg know a home defeat would put a huge dent in their chances of automatic qualification, whilst an away win would see Nice keep the pressure on Marseille.
There could also be some shifting in the rankings in Spain this weekend, with second and third place Sevilla and Real Betis locking horns. Below them, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid both have massive games against Bilbao and Celta Vigo, where anything other than victory could open the door for those chasing them.
The race for Europe is well and truly on, with RB Leipzig, Hoffenheim and Freiburg all tied on 37 points. Even Union Berlin down in ninth will know a strong run to end the season could see them snatch a place in Europe, as just three points separates themselves and fourth place Leipzig.
Friday night football is all about Serie A this weekend, with title chasing AC and Inter Milan both getting Italy’s weekend of football underway. There is also a huge fixture in Rome, where Lazio host Napoli knowing that defeat could all but end their chances of Champions League football next season.
This Week’s European Football Betting Tips
*Odds are correct at the time of publication and are subject to change.
Sassuolo vs Fiorentina: Fiorentina win – 29/20
Despite beating Inter in their last outing, the win was Sassuolo’s first in their last five, and they were dominated by the Champions who were just unable to find the net. Fiorentina have adjusted quickly to life without Dusan Vlahovic, and Krzysztof Piatek has impressed since coming in to replace the Serbian. Piatek has four in his last three, and Fiorentina will be looking for their fourth consecutive win.
Metz vs Nantes: Nantes win – 31/20
Nantes’ shock 3-1 triumph over PSG last weekend was a fifth win in six games, which has seen them climb to within just two points of European competition and reach the Coupe de France semi-finals. Their opponents Metz have won just once in their last seven league games and are currently sat in 19th place with the league’s worst home record.
Bochum vs RB Leipzig: RB Leipzig win – 5/8
Leipzig have one of the most sought after players in Europe with Christopher Nkunku. The Frenchman has netted five in his last four games and is being linked with a move to some of the world’s biggest clubs. The visitors have lost just once in 2022, whilst Bochum have managed just one win in their last five.
Barcelona vs Athletic Bilbao: Barcelona win – 10/17
Things seemed to click for Barcelona in their last outing as they thrashed Valencia 4-1 thanks to a Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang hat-trick. They have now lost just once in nine league games, and they should have the quality to overcome a tricky Bilbao side at Camp Nou this weekend.
