A shock 3-2 defeat at the Etihad last weekend has blown the title race wide open, whilst victories for Burnley and Watford at the bottom of the table have given them fresh hope of survival.
Our expert tipster at NetBet has previewed the upcoming round of fixtures and picked out the best Premier League bets available on NetBet Sport’s football odds page ahead of another weekend of important fixtures.
Southampton to beat Norwich – 10/19
You probably can’t read into Norwich’s recent defeats against City and Liverpool too much. Before those two fixtures, Dean Smith’s side had won four of their last six in all competitions, reigniting the fans’ faith that survival might still be on the cards. However, they face another tricky test this weekend as they travel to face Ralph Hasenhuttl’s well-coached Saints. Southampton have consistently competed with the best of late – a run of 11 games with just one defeat has included picking up points against: West Ham, Man City, Man United and Spurs twice. To make things even more difficult for the Canaries, the Saints haven’t lost at home since September. Norwich are much improved since Smith’s arrival, but they’re facing an uphill battle this weekend.
Tottenham to beat Leeds – 20/21
The same old problems were on show as Leeds were handed a 4-2 defeat by old rivals Man United last weekend. Although they make for entertaining viewing, Marcelo Bielsa will be desperately looking for ways to fill the holes in his open defence. They face a major issue in this upcoming fixture, with Harry Kane seemingly back to his best as he scored twice to sink City. Not only was England’s captain in fine form, but Heung-Min Son and Dejan Kulusevski were also both dynamic and effective in the final third. Leeds look like they will need a miracle to keep this Spurs side at bay, and Antonio Conte won’t be looking to ease off the gas as he chases down a spot among Europe’s elite for next season.
Newcastle to beat Brentford – 19/10
After a positive start to life back in the top-flight, Bretford have slipped further and further down the table as the weeks have passed. They have now lost six of their last seven league games, and with those below them with games in hand, the Bees are in real danger of being sucked into the bottom three. The injury plighted campaign of Ivan Toney has been their main downfall, and Thomas Frank has struggled to replace his main-man’s goals in his absence. They will host a Newcastle side full of confidence this weekend, travelling to London having won three of their last four. Eddie Howe will be hoping his chief creator Allan Saint-Maximin will back to full fitness, and with the Frenchman available, the Magpies have real game-changers in their ranks.
Brighton to beat Aston Villa – 5/4
Not many would have predicted Brighton’s collapse against Burnley last weekend, with Graham Potter’s side usually one of the more consistent. They will be looking to get back to winning ways at the Amex as they host a Villa side that have fallen into a slump under Steven Gerrard. Villa have now lost back-to-back games against relegation threatened Watford and Newcastle, making it just one win in eight in all competitions. The Seagulls have never won a league meeting at home between these two, but we’d expect them to get back on track against a Villa side that have lost their way since an influx of January signings.
Manchester United to beat Watford – 10/31
Man United showed what they were capable of going forward against Leeds last weekend, but the same defensive issues were apparent once again. Jadon Sancho and Paul Pogba both oozed class at Elland Road, with Ralf Rangnick’s side looking as dynamic as we have seen them in forward areas. Despite Roy Hodgson’s best attempts to steady the ship at Vicarage Road, United are sure to carve out chances against this Watford side. Given the Hornets’ goal against Villa was their first in five games, the Red Devils will fancy their chances of keeping a clean sheet and building their momentum.
Crystal Palace to draw with Burnley – 49/20
Crystal Palace are in a really sticky situation. Although there have been improvements in the football and clear changes to the philosophies, the Eagles’ form has been poor in the league for a while. Patrick Vieira will certainly be eyeing this up as an opportunity to put some distance between his side and the bottom three, but Burnley have proven they are not resigned to relegation. Wout Weghorst has looked every bit of the player we expected him to be based off his time at Wolfsburg, and with a goal and assist in the win over Brighton, the big Dutchman is instrumental in everything Burnley do going forward. These two sides will look to play in completely contrasting ways, and it’s difficult to see who will come out on top.
Man City to beat Everton – 4/13
It wasn’t just the home defeat to Spurs that was shocking, but it was the way in which they lost. After Riyad Mahrez bagged a late equaliser, it looked like the momentum had shifted and normality had resumed, as if City were the more likely to take all three points. But once again Pep’s side were carved open by a fluid Tottenham attack and handed their first defeat in the league since October. Unfortunately for Everton, they might just be in the firing line to feel the full wrath of Guardiola’s anger. It’s not often that City lose twice in a row, and in the context of the league standings, they simply cannot afford to. Everton are still in transition under Frank Lampard, and there’s every chance they could be on the end of a thrashing this weekend.
West Ham to draw with Wolves – 11/5
Both these sides will be quietly confident that they can upset the odds and sneak into the top four, but a defeat this weekend could put an end to those hopes. West Ham have been stuttering somewhat recently, with just one win in five league games, and the visitors certainly boast the better form coming into this fixture. Bruno Lage’s side have consistently found a way to get over the line, with strong defensive foundations the building blocks for their success – they have one of the best defensive records in the league. It was a 1-0 win at for Wolves when these two met at the Molineux earlier this season, and it wouldn’t be at all surprising to see another close battle. Ultimately, these two appear evenly matched across the pitch, and it could be a moment of magic that seals a victory.
