Napoli were the first to blink in the title race as they lost 1-0 at home to the league leaders AC Milan. Milan currently lead the way, but their neighbours Inter trail by just two points with a game in hand. Jose Mourinho’s Roma have joined the race for Champions League football, and seven league games without defeat was topped off with a 1-0 win over top four rivals Atalanta.
The race for Europe is also on in Germany, where just four points separate third and sixth place. Hoffenheim and RB Leipzig look the favourites to claim the fourth spot, with the two set to meet in what could be a decider in less than a month’s time. Bayern still hold the initiative at the summit, but with three of the top six still to play, the title isn’t in Munich just yet.
Despite PSG’s dip in form, the Ligue 1 title looks to be heading back to Paris. With a 13 point lead and 11 games to play, it would take a monumental collapse for them to surrender the top spot. At the opposite end of the table, four wins from six league games has seen St. Etienne climb out of the bottom three, away from a seemingly inevitable relegation.
Cadiz are also looking to mount an impossible escape from the depths of La Liga. Just one defeat in their last seven league games has brought them to within a point of finding a way out of the bottom three. Barcelona are also in sublime form having not lost a league game since early December, although their rivals Real Madrid appear to have one hand on the league trophy.
This Week’s European Football Betting Tips
*Odds are correct at the time of publication and are subject to change.
Freiburg vs Wolfsburg: Freiburg win – 23/20
Whilst both of these teams have been in solid form, Wolfsburg haven’t travelled well in the last few months. They have lost five of their last seven away games, whilst Freiburg have lost just twice at home all season. No team has conceded fewer goals than the hosts, who are still in with a chance of qualifying for next season’s Champions League.
Rayo Vallecano vs Sevilla: Sevilla win – 5/4
These are very good odds when you consider Vallecano have lost six straight league games, including most recently to relegation threatened Cadiz. Sevilla have not lost a league game since defeat at the Bernabeu in November, and they are the only team to concede fewer than 20 goals this campaign. There only looks to be one outcome.
Lyon vs Rennes: Lyon win – 11/10
Although Rennes have the second best home record in Ligue 1, they have picked up only 15 of 46 points on the road. They have lost four of their last five away games, whilst Lyon have lost just twice at home all season. It will be close, but Lyon have the edge.
Torino vs Inter: Inter win – 5/7
Inter can’t afford any slip-ups if they are to keep pace with AC Milan. They were back to winning ways in their last league game with a 5-0 hammering of Salernitana, then followed it up with a surprise 1-0 win at Anfield. Their opponents have lost three of their last five, and have lost each of their last five encounters with Inter.
