Chelsea to beat Middlesbrough – 1/2
Middlesbrough have made the Riverside a fortress in recent months, winning nine straight games on home soil, including a 1-0 extra time win over Tottenham. They have built their impressive run on defensive solidity, keeping five clean sheets in those nine games. Chris Wilder’s side face an entirely different challenge this weekend as they host the European champions. Chelsea have won 11 of their last 12 games and have lost just once away from home since early December. Due to the impending international break, the visitors won’t need to rotate too much, although we could see Romelu Lukaku start after falling out of favour in recent weeks. Despite their strong home form, Chelsea know how to get over the line in cup competitions, and an upset seems unlikely in this clash.
Crystal Palace to beat Everton – 11/10
You couldn’t blame Everton if their attention was elsewhere – they are under threat of relegation from the Premier League for the first time. The Toffees have lost four of their last five games, with the only win coming in the previous round of the FA Cup against non-league Boreham Wood. What will be even more worrying for Frank Lampard is that his side failed to find the net in those four defeats. They face a difficult visit to Selhurst Park to face a Palace side that have lost just once in nine games. Patrick Vieira’s team have gone from strength to strength, keeping back-to-back clean sheets in the last two games, including a 0-0 draw with Man City. There wouldn’t have been a lot separating these two at the start of the season, but they have had drastically different campaigns and the Eagles will be favourites to advance on Sunday afternoon.
Manchester City to beat Southampton – 4/13
Southampton have managed to avoid defeat in their previous two meetings with City, but Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side have struggled with form in recent weeks – the Saints have lost three games in a row against teams around or below them in the table. This doesn’t bode well as they prepare to host a City side that have won eight of their last 10 away games. Pep Guardiola has an exceptional record in cup competitions, and he has led City to at least the semi-finals in each of the last three seasons. The Premier League champions are still on for a treble, and we expect them to field a strong side to keep that possibility alive.
Nottingham Forest to draw with Liverpool – 19/4
If there’s going to be an upset, it could be Nottingham Forest that provide it. Steve Cooper’s side have already knocked out Arsenal and Leicester at the City Ground, and they will be full of confidence going into this game with Liverpool after winning eight of their last nine home games. Liverpool will pose the greatest challenge yet, but anything could happen providing Forest give their all on the day. This will be a cracking game for the neutral, and although it seems unlikely that the hosts can grind out a win in 90 minutes, there’s every chance they could take this into extra-time. However, Jurgen Klopp’s side have kept five clean sheets in six straight away victories, and they should have the squad depth to crush Forest dreams.
