Newcastle to beat Norwich – 11/10
Norwich are running out of time to save their season – with seven defeats in their last nine league games and a -44 goal difference, it’s starting to look impossible. Dean Smith’s side are well on the way to yet another relegation and season in the Championship, with the yo-yo club failing to hold down a place in the top flight yet again. In contrast, Newcastle are on the brink of a highest league finish in years, just months after looking like favourites to finish in the bottom three. These two sides are on different trajectories, and the Magpies’ momentum should take them to a fourth consecutive win.
Leicester to beat Aston Villa – 17/10
Leicester will go into this tie as slight underdogs, despite their opponents falling to four straight defeats. The Foxes were edged out in a 2-1 defeat in the reverse fixture, but their form at the King Power is exemplary. Brendan Rodgers’ side have lost just once at home since November and have won five of their last six in all competitions. Villa are never an easy game, but Steven Gerrard is still piecing things together, and Leicester look likely to edge this Midlands clash.
Nottingham Forest to beat Peterborough – 4/7
It’s hard to bet against Forest this season. They sit comfortably in the play-offs by a five-point margin with two games in hand, and an automatic promotion is still not completely off the table. They travel to face a Peterborough side this weekend that are seven points adrift of Championship safety with just nine points left to play for. They may have picked up eight points from the last 12 available, but it’s simply too little too late, especially considering they’re up against the league’s best side over the last 25 games.
Millwall to beat Birmingham – 5/4
It’s been a season to forget for Birmingham. If it weren’t for Reading and Derby’s points deductions, the Blues would be in the bottom three. To make matters worse, they’ve lost three on the bounce, including a 6-1 drubbing last time out at the hands of a Blackpool side that hadn’t won in five. We expect Millwall to hand them yet another defeat, with the Lions on the cusp of a place in the play-offs.
Sunderland to beat Cambridge – 20/57
Sunderland are peaking at the right time, with only one team having picked up more points than the Black Cats in the last 10 games as they look to make a late surge for the play-offs. The hosts boast the second best home record in the league, and they will be looking to make it five consecutive wins at the Stadium of Light this weekend. Cambridge aren’t in the worst form themselves, but there is far more on the line for Alex Neil’s Sunderland.
Ipswich to beat Crewe – 8/15
Only six teams have picked up more points in League One since Kieran McKenna took over at Ipswich – they have also conceded the fewest goals in the division during that time. They will travel to face an already relegated Crewe side this weekend, with the hosts losing 16 of their last 18 games, failing to find the net in 10 of those. Pride is the only thing on the line for Crewe, but that won’t be enough to earn them much this weekend.
Exeter to beat Rochdale – 4/6
Forest Green’s faltering form has left Exeter with an outside chance of winning the League Two title. They will host Rochdale this weekend having lost just once in their last 10, with a win sure to put the pressure on the league leaders that travel to face fifth place Bristol Rovers. Only two teams have picked up fewer points on the road this season than Rochdale, and that doesn’t look likely to change on Saturday.
Salford to beat Oldham – 1/1
There’s a lot on the line for both of these sides, just at different ends of the table. A win could see Salford sneak into the play-offs, with defeat for Oldham potentially sealing their relegation from the Football League. The hosts have plenty to fight for, but sometimes fight isn’t quite enough when there’s a huge quality discrepancy.
