US Open 2022
Monday 29th August – Sunday 11th September
USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Centre, New York
US Open Tournament Preview
Following his absence from Wimbledon, reigning champion and world number one Medvedev will return to Grand Slam action in New York as he looks to build on some promising recent form. After beating Cam Norrie in the Los Cabos Open final, the Russian has bailed out at the latter stages of competitions against Nick Kyrgios and Stefanos Tsitsipas. Despite these defeats, Medvedev is back competing amongst the best.
With Djokovic not competing, Medvedev has a great chance to win this event two years running. Having beat the Serbian last year, the likes of Rafa Nadal will provide the sternest competition for the current champion.
The women’s competition feels equally open this year. Iga Swiatek has been tipped to dominate tennis for the foreseeable future, but since her French Open victory, she has failed to advance further than the quarter-finals in any of the four competitions she has competed in. The Polish world number one will no doubt be favourite heading to New York, but her apparent lack of form could open the door for the likes of Simona Halep and Naomi Osaka.
Reigning champion Raducanu made history in last year’s competition, but she has struggled to hit those same heights since. The 19-year-old did, however, look revitalised in a comfortable 2-0 win over Serena Williams in Cincinnati, showing glimpses of the talent that catapulted her to the top of women’s tennis at the 2021 US Open – she can’t be written off just yet.
US Open Tournament Odds
Djokovic is currently leading the men’s odds at 6/4, followed by world number one Medvedev at 7/4. Four-time champion Rafael Nadal is third favourite at 9/2, followed by 5/1 Carlos Alcaraz and 7/1 Kyrgios.
Swiatek is the current women’s favourite at 3/1, followed by 7/1 Halep and 12/1 Elena Rybakina. Two-time winner Osaka and reigning champion Raducanu are both 16/1.
US Open Tournament Betting Tips
*Odds correct at the time of publication and are subject to change.
Nick Kyrgios E/W – 7/1
Love him or hate him, Kyrgios has entertainment value. Regardless of the controversy, we saw him play the best tennis of his career at Wimbledon and he was unlucky not come away with the title. He followed that up with a win in Washington and a solid outing in the Canada Masters. If he can reach the level he managed in London, get ready for fireworks on his route to the final.
Iga Swiatek – 3/1
She hasn’t exactly been in great form, but nobody can compete with the world number one on her day. Wimbledon aside, she is the women for the big occasion – a semi-final appearance at the Australian Open followed by a French Open win is proof of that. Once she gets going, nobody can stop her.
Naomi Osaka E/W – 16/1
We like this as an outside bet. Osaka has started to find her rhythm in recent months and she knows this competition very well. Two US Open victories in the last four years is impressive, and we think she is better value than these odds give her credit for.
