Chelsea to draw with West Ham – 33/10
Chelsea’s indifferent start to the campaign continued with a midweek defeat away at Southampton, making it just one win in their last four league games. Thomas Tuchel’s side face another tricky task on Saturday as they prepare to host West Ham, with David Moyes’ Hammers appearing to have turned a corner. The visitors followed up three consecutive league defeats with a positive 1-0 win at Villa Park and an impressive 1-1 draw with Tottenham – a game in which they will feel they could have won.
Now is the perfect time to play Chelsea – pressure is building due to the huge sums of money invested in the squad, and some of the Blues’ key players seem massively off the pace. This West Ham team very rarely hand out an easy win, and although the hosts undoubtedly have superior quality across the pitch, we can see the Irons capitalising on Chelsea’s patchy form and nicking a point.
Newcastle to beat Crystal Palace – 21/20
This should be an entertaining game contested by two teams on the rise. Newcastle have invested intelligently and record signing Alexander Isak hit the ground running with a delightful finish on his debut. Eddie Howe will be hoping the Swede is the missing part of the puzzle and will provide enough goals to fire the Magpies to European football.
The hosts will be slight favourites at St. James’ Park, but Crystal Palace have been a consistently difficult prospect to overcome since Patrick Vieira’s appointment. Defensively, the Eagles are much improved, and they have added a technical quality to their midfield and attack that was sorely lacking under Roy Hodgson. That being said, we fancy Newcastle in front of a packed home crowd. Nullifying Wilfried Zaha will be their biggest task, but if they can manage the winger effectively, they can claim all three points.
Nottingham Forest to beat Bournemouth – 21/20
This is less of a reflection on Nottingham Forest and more so on Bournemouth. We would be backing pretty much any team in the league against the Cherries. Not only do they have a squad ill-equipped to deal with the top-flight, they are also without a manager and lacking clear direction. They clung on for dear life to earn a point against Wolves, but they could, and probably should have lost given the number of chances Bruno Lage’s side squandered.
Forest are coming off the back of two defeats against Man City and Spurs, but they won’t be the fixtures that define their season. Steve Cooper will ultimately target the games against the teams around them, with the meetings with Bournemouth potentially relegation six-pointers. Forest have spent an unbelievable amount in the transfer window, bringing in talent from all over. This could backfire should they fail to beat the drop, but it has left them with a far stronger squad that has every chance of surviving.
