Liverpool have lost just once in their opening six league games, but they have only managed two wins, leaving them sat outside the top six with nine points. It’s hardly been the fast start Jurgen Klopp would have been hoping for, with the Reds already trailing league leaders Arsenal by six points and champions Manchester City by five.
Wolves will have had their eyes firmly set on a spot in Europe ahead of the new campaign, but one win thus far has probably humbled their expectations somewhat. They may have the best defensive record in the league with four goals conceded, but no team has found the net fewer times than Bruno Lage’s side. They have failed to score in half of their matches and are yet to score more than once in a game. This doesn’t bode well for a trip to Anfield to face a Liverpool team that put nine past a helpless Bournemouth.
Klopp’s side have been far from their best, which may leave the door slightly ajar for Wolves to nick something on the road. However, the visitors attacking issues have been on show for all to see. Unless they are confident in keeping a clean sheet – something only Arsenal and Inter Milan have done at Anfield this year – it looks unlikely Wolves will be able to go blow-for-blow with Liverpool.
Liverpool have won seven consecutive games against this weekend’s opposition, and although they are not firing on all cylinders, they will be expected to claim all three points when they meet on Saturday. We can’t help but think this is going to be a close game. Two of the last three meetings between these sides have ended 1-0 to Liverpool, and although they are not at their best, they should find a way to get over the line. However, we’ve become increasingly familiar with Wolves’ defensive ability of the years – they will definitely make the Reds work.
Draw – 5/1
Fulham, Crystal Palace and Everton all managed it – can Wolves? We don’t think Lage’s side will cause the Liverpool backline too many issues, but their low block could provide yet another hurdle for Klopp’s side to overcome. Wolves will be confident of taking something from this game.
