Everton vs Manchester United Football Preview
The Manchester derby defeat at the Etihad was a brutal reminder of just how much work is required for Erik ten Hag to get this United team back to the top. It is sure to have put a huge dent in the Red Devils’ confidence following an impressive run of four straight league victories. United will need to dust themselves down ready to go again on Sunday against a much improved Everton side.
Frank Lampard appears to be building the foundations of something at Goodison Park. The Toffees haven’t exactly set the world alight going forward, but in Conor Coady and James Tarkowski they have the makings of a solid Premier League defence. They are undefeated in their last six matches and have kept two successive clean sheets on home soil. They have also only conceded multiple goals on one occasion this season – a record which includes fixtures against Chelsea and Liverpool.
Whilst a lot has been made of the defensive improvements – they have conceded the least in the league – no team has scored fewer goals at home. You’d think Lampard’s team will eventually have to improve their attacking output if they are to climb the table.
Everton took four points from a possible six against United last season, but they have won just twice in their last 16 meetings with the Reds. NetBet’s win probability counter gives United a 48% chance of victory, with an Everton win and draw equally likely at 26%.
Everton vs Manchester United Football Odds
Despite coming into the tie as favourites, there is still plenty of value in a United win at 1/1. Given how difficult Everton have been to beat of late, a home win at 51/20 and a draw at 5/2 are both tempting options. Although Cristiano Ronaldo is struggling to get near the starting XI, he is still leading the odds to open the scoring at 10/3, with Everton’s top scorer Anthony Gordon at 8/1.

Tie and under 2.5 goals – 19/5
This bet has landed in four of Everton’s last six games. United are far from the finished article and the Toffees have been impenetrable on home soil – we could see a drab 0-0 or 1-1 at Goodison.
Both teams to score: no – 23/20
It seems a fair bet that one of these teams will fail to find the net. Everton have kept back-to-back clean sheets at home, but have also lacked any real intent going forward. United have kept three clean sheets of their own in six games across competitions, but could struggle to break down the hosts’ low block.
Bet Maker: Man Utd win, under 2.5 goals, Anthony Martial anytime goalscorer – 10/1
A nice little Bet Maker if you’re looking for some longer odds. It’s hard to deny the talent in this United team, and one defeat doesn’t take away from an impressive four-match win streak. You get the feeling Ten Hag has been eagerly awaiting Martial’s return – that much was evident when the United boss chucked the Frenchman on instead of Ronaldo at the Etihad. Two goals will have been a confidence boost, and if he plays, he could be key.
