Manchester United vs West Ham Football Preview
Aside from a major blip in the Manchester derby, United are in impressive form. Since the 4-0 embarrassment at Brentford, the defeat against City remains their only loss in nine league games. In that time, they have beaten Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham, as well as picking up a point at Stamford Bridge. Things are moving in the right direction for Erik ten Hag, but there is still an awful lot of work to do if the Reds are to land themselves back in the Champions League.
West Ham have also turned a corner since a slow start to the campaign. The Hammers have won seven of their last 10 in all competitions and an improvement in league form has seen them climb out of the bottom three and into midtable. Having European football once more was always going to stretch the capabilities of their squad, but David Moyes looks to have their form trending on an upwards trajectory.
The visitors will be confident as they make the trip north. United may be in good form but the absence of Raphael Varane will be a huge blow to their defence. West Ham are a physical and direct side, with likely defensive partnership Victor Lindelof and Lisandro Martinez sure to be targeted from set pieces by Gianluca Scamacca, Tomas Soucek and Kurt Zouma.
This fixture is very rarely a goal fest. In four of the last five meetings, one goal has been enough to win the match, with a 2-1 United win in 2021 the only exception. West Ham’s record is also somewhat uninspiring at Old Trafford – they have won just one league game there in the last 20 years.
Manchester United vs West Ham Football Odds
After a solid run of results, United will go into the tie as strong favourites at 1.66. West Ham’s woeful record at Old Trafford is reflected in their underdog status (4.70), with a draw priced at 3.93. With four of the last five games between these teams featuring just one goal, the 3.90 odds for under 1.5 goals looks tempting.
Manchester United vs West Ham Betting Tips
*Odds correct at the time of publication and subject to change.
Man United win and under 3.5 goals – 2.21
United look much improved structurally under the new manager. They aren’t scoring hatfuls like Man City, but they aren’t conceding many either. Only two teams have scored fewer goals away from home than West Ham, with this bet covering a 1-0, 2-0 or 2-1 United win.
Man United win and both to score – 2.96
United have looked good in recent weeks and will be many people’s pick to win. However, they do look like they could be caused problems from set pieces against this West Ham side. Might be worth checking the odds on a Kurt Zouma or Tomas Soucek goal.
