Newcastle vs Chelsea Football Preview
Newcastle will head into the international break in the top four – not many would have predicted that at the start of the season! The Magpies have won six of their last seven league games and are undefeated since August. No team has picked up more points than Eddie Howe’s side in the last five games as they prepare to welcome Chelsea to St. James’ Park.
Chelsea’s early progress under new manager Graham Potter has stalled somewhat in recent weeks. Despite successfully navigating a tough Champions League group, their league form has left a lot to be desired. The Blues are without a win in four and have suffered back-to-back defeats for the first time this season.
Things don’t get any easier as the West London club head north. They lacked any real intensity or direction in their 1-0 home defeat against Arsenal, with just one shot on target emphasising their poor forward play. Potter will need to find a quick fix in the final third if his side are to cause this strong Newcastle defence any issues.
The hosts are undefeated on home soil this campaign and have won their previous three matches at St. James’ Park with a combined score of 10-1. Howe’s side have already kept four clean sheets at home, and there’s every chance they improve on that record this weekend against a Chelsea side that seemingly ran out of ideas in their last outing.
Chelsea have won their last four meetings with Newcastle without conceding a goal, but an awful lot has changed since they last met. Both will be desperate to head into the winter break on a high, but Newcastle’s momentum makes it difficult to bet against them.
Football Odds: Newcastle Favourites?
Perhaps unsurprisingly, Newcastle head into the tie as favourites, but still represent good value at 2.25. A Chelsea win (3.02) is seen as fractionally more likely than a draw (3.38), with both teams to score (1.69) heavily backed. Miguel Almiron (8.80) has found the net in each of his last four league outings, with the Paraguayan trailing main man Callum Wilson (5.60) as most likely to open the scoring.
Newcastle vs Chelsea Football Betting Tips
*Odds correct at the time of publication and subject to change.
Newcastle win and both teams to score – 4.30
In their last 10 matches, Newcastle have scored 22 goals and failed to find the net just twice. Against an injury-plagued Chelsea side, the Magpies’ dynamic attack should cause plenty of problems. They have conceded in four of their last six wins, but look good to claim all three points.
Miguel Almiron anytime goalscorer – 3.90
Almiron has already smashed his previous most productive goalscoring season for Newcastle. With eight goals in his last seven, he is deep in the midst of a purple patch – you wouldn’t put it past him to continue that hot streak.
