Spain vs Germany Football Preview
This is without doubt the one-to-watch on Sunday. Two European giants battle it out in what could potentially prove the crucial game in deciding who tops Group E. The last time these two met in major competition, Spain emerged 1-0 victors in the semi-final on their way to lifting the 2010 World Cup.
Neither nation has been at their best for a long time, but both will fancy their chances of making a run at the final. Spain look a little fragile defensively, but their midfield is among the best in the competition. The likes of Sergio Busquets, Rodri and Pedri will dominate the ball for long periods. However, there does appear a lack of goals in their attack.
Alvaro Morata will likely be the man to lead the Spanish line, but you would hardly call him an elite goalscorer. They have lacked attacking options for quite some time, and this World Cup is no different. They will enjoy the lion’s share of possession, but whether they can test Manuel Neuer remains to be seen.
The Germans are far more well-rounded. They have an abundance of class in every position, as well as bundles of tournament experience. We like the look of Leroy Sane and Serge Gnabry on the counter attack against a Spanish team who push their full-backs incredibly high up the pitch. They will be more than happy to cede possession, but we think they will look the more threatening of the two.
Spain vs Germany Football Odds
The odds are slightly in favour of Spain (2.49), although a Germany win (2.82) and draw (3.45) both provide good value. A draw and both to score looks tempting at 4.05, with over 2.5 and under 2.5 goals evenly priced at 1.90.
Betting Tips
Germany win 1-0 – 8.70
Despite going into the tie as slight underdogs, we think Germany will look the better of the two. They will defend in numbers and launch direct, fast attacks with the pace in their forward line. They could go further than people think in Qatar.
Under 2.5 goals – 1.90
We just can’t see this being a goal fest. Five of the previous six meetings between these nations have seen under 2.5 goals, and with a lot on the line, it’s not set up to be a free-flowing affair.
