Cameroon vs Serbia
Serbia and Cameroon are set to clash for the first time since 2010. The last time they met the game was indeed a classic with Cameroon winning 4-3. Cameroon has some familiar names in their squad, including Karlo Toko Ekambi, Andre Onana and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, who has been in fine form for Bayern Munich in recent weeks.
Serbia’s impressive offensive line, which comprises top strikers such as Dusan Vlahovic, Aleksandar Mitrovic, and Luka Jovic, along with Dusan Tadic – their captain, has the capability of scoring past the strongest of defences given the opportunity. After beating Portugal for the top spot in qualifications, it is safe to say that the Serbians are well-prepared and will be extremely hard to beat. They did lose 2-0 to Brazil on Thursday night but that was always going to be a tough game for them.
Serbia win – 1.69
Score Prediction: 1-2
South Korea vs Ghana
South Korea and Ghana go head to head in what will be the second match of group H and one that will most probably decide which of the two teams will be progressing to the knockout stages. The outcome of this meeting is pretty hard to predict as both teams share a similar record, and neither team has exactly scored goals for fun lately.
South Korea will be led by their captain and star player, Son Heung-min, who has been one of the best forwards in the English Premier League for several years. While Ghana will look to Thomas Partey from Arsenal, Mohammed Kudus from Ajax, and the Ayew brothers (Jordan and André), both of whom have scored a total of 43 goals in their national team careers.
There could be some value in backing the African giants to pick up all 3 points since Son Heung-min is currently under question as he experienced a serious injury before the World Cup. He started the last game but there are doubts as to how fit he really is. He has only scored in two games for Tottenham Hotspur this season so his usual good form has deserted him for the time being.
Ghana win – 2.99
Score Prediction: 0-1
Brazil vs Switzerland
It goes without saying that Brazil is one of the strongest and most star-filled teams at the World Cup. The five-time World Cup champions have maintained an unbeaten streak of 17, with only three resulting in a draw. While Brazil’s charismatic captain, Neymar, might be the main threat, the likes of Gabriel Jesus, Richarlison, Vinicius Jr. and other star players in their roster make this team indestructible.
Brazil might be the most formidable contender in this tournament, but Switzerland is not to be underestimated by any means. The Swiss are a compact, resilient team known for their exceptional defence, which cost them just two goals during the entirety of the qualifiers and in recent years they have garnered a reputation for not succumbing to pressure, especially against the strongest football nations. Switzerland’s line-up comprises Cameroon-born Breel Embolo as well as several other names to keep an eye out for – Xherdan Shaqiri formerly of Liverpool, Manuel Akanji from Man City, and Granit Xhaka from Arsenal.
Brazil win – 1.41
Score Prediction: 3-1
Portugal vs Uruguay
Both Portugal and Uruguay have a wealth of experience among their ranks, which is why this will definitely be an extremely tough one to call. All eyes will be on Portugal’s player Cristiano Ronaldo as this might very well be his last World Cup, so we expect him to give his best as usual. But while Portugal’s dependence on the former Manchester United player is quite apparent, he is by no means the only threat to Uruguay, especially with Bruno Fernandes, Joao Cancelo, João Félix, Bernardo Silva, and many more in their ranks.
Even though Portugal are favourites, Uruguay’s squad is the strongest it has been in over a decade, with members like Darwin Nunez from Liverpool, to add to the veteran service of Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani. – Both of these players are now ageing so this will be a big concern. Also, with just one defeat in their last 12 matches, they are very capable of giving Portugal as good as they get
Portugal to win 1.95
Score Prediction: 2-1
