Bournemouth vs Burnley
Bournemouth could be in for a fifth consecutive defeat when they welcome Burnley to the south coast this weekend. Since the end of the World Cup, the Cherries have failed to find the net in 360 minutes of football, most recently a 3-0 drubbing at the hands of Manchester United.
In contrast, Burnley arrive at the Vitality Stadium off the back of seven wins in their last eight – the only defeat also coming against Man United in the EFL Cup. Vincent Kompany has worked wonders at Turf Moor since arriving from a successful spell with Anderlecht, bringing with him some of the Pro League’s finest talent and instilling a style of play rarely seen by fans of the Clarets.
There’s every chance Burnley end up taking Bournemouth’s place back in the top-flight next season, and the visitors will be confident in securing a spot in the next round.
Burnley win – 2.74
Shrewsbury vs Sunderland
These two are no strangers to one another – they have locked horns plenty of times in recent years during Sunderland’s fleeting stay in League One. They are now making a right go of fighting for a play-off spot, currently sitting just a point outside the top six. They have also showed plenty of promise on the road this season – only four Championship teams have accumulated more points away from home.
As for Shrewsbury, they occupy an all too familiar spot down in 16th in League One. They welcome Sunderland to the New Meadow having lost three on the bounce in the league, including defeats to relegation rivals Cheltenham and Cambridge. They might be hoping the FA Cup is a much-needed escape, but they find themselves with a tough task in Sunderland.
Sunderland win – 1.96
Brentford vs West Ham
What’s going on at West Ham? Your guess is as good as ours. The dizzy heights of the Europa League semi-finals seem a distant memory, with Premier League relegation looming. They were beaten 2-0 by Brentford on home soil just over a week prior to their FA Cup meeting, with plenty to do if they are to get the fans back onside.
Ivan Toney is expected to miss out through injury, but the Bees proved more than capable without their star striker in a 3-1 victory over Liverpool. The win extended their unbeaten run to four, with seven points earned post-World Cup from Spurs, West Ham and Liverpool. The form of these London clubs is trending in the opposite direction, and Thomas Frank’s side will carry their momentum into a tasty clash on Saturday evening.
Brentford double chance – 1.40
