Liverpool vs Everton Football Preview
Things went from bad to worse for Liverpool when they were thumped 3-0 by Wolves last time out. The Reds are yet to win a league match in 2023 and are staring down the face of a third consecutive defeat. There are murmurings of discontent around Klopp, but he would no doubt get the Anfield faithful back onside with a derby day victory.
Dyche’s arrival at Goodison Park had an immediate impact as they upset the odds to beat league leaders Arsenal. A single goal created and scored by ex-Burnley boys proved a fitting return to football for Dyche, who will face the tricky task of earning a result in their neighbours’ backyard just two weeks after arriving in the North West.
Despite Liverpool’s poor form, they have not lost at home since later-October. They are also fairly dominant in Merseyside derbies on home soil – they have beaten their local rivals on five of their last six meetings at Anfield.
Everton will be full of confidence ahead of their short Monday night trip, but Dyche has a huge job on his hands. The Toffees have won just once at Anfield since the turn of the millennium. But with Liverpool the same distance from the bottom three as they are the top four, anything could happen in this cracking match-up.
Liverpool vs Everton Football Odds
Liverpool remain strong 1.52 favourites for the derby, with an Everton win at 5.80 and a draw priced at 4.20. The both teams to score market is split, with odds of 1.84 for both to find the net and 1.90 for either to keep a clean sheet.
Not too many will be backing a goal fest now that Dyche is at the helm. One goal to seal the points is currently at 2.25, with over 2.5 goals at 2.80. Mo Salah has scored just once in seven appearances in 2023 but leads the odds to break the deadlock at 4.75. Dominic Calvert-Lewin is seen as Everton’s biggest goal threat with odds of 9.50 for the striker to open the scoring.
Merseyside Derby Betting Tips
Draw and under 2.5 goals – 5.40
We like the look of a 0-0 or 1-1. This bet has landed in five of the last 11 Merseyside derbies contested in the league, and the playing field might be more level than it has been in years ahead of the tie.
Under 2 goals – 1.67
If there’s one thing Dyche will bring, it’s hard work and defensive solidity. A goalless draw or 1-0 win for either team is a winning bet, whilst two goals returns your stake. In the last 20 meetings between these two in all competitions, eight have seen under two goals, with a further five seeing exactly two goals. That’s a winning bet or stake returned in 13 of 20.
