The Cheltenham Festival, at this point, will be in full swing, and punters will be ready for another day of enthralling action. Here at NetBet, we have decided to put our expert tipster to the test and have asked him to cast an eye over all four days of action. Cheltenham provides the highest quality horse racing worldwide; for many, it is considered the season’s highlight.
We are also running a fantastic promotion across all four days where you can get a Free Bet of up to £10 if the horse you backed finishes 2nd to the SP Favourite in any live ITV race.
Cheltenham Festival Day Two
Tuesday 15th March
Cheltenham, Gloucestershire
Live on ITV
The 2023 Cheltenham Festival sees four days of pulsating action at one of the most famous venues in the world. Day two is a great day to attend and bet on, as the crowd at this point is full of energy and are raring to go. Our betting expert has a selection for all the races taking place on day two, and he believes there is some great value out there.
13:30 – Ballymore Novices’ Hurdle
The first race of the day is never one to miss since the crowd has all this pent-up energy, and this no doubt has an effect on all the horses and jockeys who are tasked with winning the race.
Hermes Allen, trained by Paul Nichols, has a fantastic chance of emerging victorious. It has been a while since this trainer has won a festival grade 1 novice hurdle race, so you can only imagine a lot of attention must have gone into this.
Like a lot of the races on day 1, this race has been Irish dominated in recent years, with eight of the last nine winners being Irish-trained. Ben Pauling’s Willoughby Court managed to break this trend in 2017.
Impaire Et Passe is understandably the favourite for this race, but this isn’t where the value is, according to our betting expert. He believes the two selections below stand a great chance of taking the trophy home and are overpriced.
Value: Hermes Allen 11/4
Each-Way Bet: Gaelic Warrior 5/1
14:10 – PM Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase
Geri Colombe, trained by Gordon Elliot, is much fancied in this race after his impressive victory in Sandown in February. The race is very similar to this one, and this is why many experts are making the decision to back this horse. He also remains unbeaten. Cheltenham, however, is the place to end such runs, which is why our betting expert believes there is great value to be had elsewhere.
Real Whacker is a horse that is going under the radar in many ways. A few months ago, his name really wasn’t in the frame as a potential winner, but a succession of great performances has made him our expert pick.
Favourite: Geri Colombe 6/4
Value: The Real Whacker 4/1
14:50 – PM Coral Cup Hurdle
History tells us that if you back a favourite in this race, you are unlikely to be cashing in your bet come the end of the race. Astonishingly only three of the last 29 runners to be marked up as the favourite have ended up crossing the finish line in first place.
You might remember that last year this race produced a shock winner when Commander Of Fleet came in at 50-1. In fact, this race often produces a winner with very high odds. With this in mind, our betting expert has made it his task to pluck out another winner for you.
Having said that, our expert actually believes this year will see the favourite Camprond win this race as he has been in excellent form and believes odds of 6/1 still represents a great price. He also believes Run For Oscar is a great opportunity to place an each-way bet.
Favourite: Camprond 6/1
Outsider Bet: Run for Oscar 8/1
15:30 – Champion Chase
There are two stars in this two-mile race. There is Energumene, who won the race last year and Edwardstone. Up until a few months ago, they would have been considered heavy favourites for this race, but a few recent setbacks now mean that they can no longer consider themselves head and shoulders above the rest of the field.
Our NetBet betting expert still believes without question they are the ones to beat, but below he has selected two value bets he believes represent great value.
Value: Gentleman De Mee 10/1
Danger: Blue Lord 12/1
16:10 – Glenfarclas Chase
This year’s race has two significant favourites, and our betting expert unsurprisingly believes that one of these two horses will win the race.
In recent years Tiger Roll has had an exceptional record winning the race in 2018,19, and 21. The horse also was runner-up in 2020. You won’t be surprised to learn that 15 of the 18 races have saw Irish-trained horses cross the finish line first. Anything can happen at Cheltenham, but this is one race our betting expert is not predicting any great shocks.
Value: Galvin 9/4
Tip: Delta Work 11/10
16:50 – Grand Annual Chase
This race went through a drastic change two years ago as the style of the course was changed, and the day of the race was swapped from a Friday to a Wednesday. The old course is designed to suit slightly heavier horses, and the record over the years on this race track proves exactly that.
What will excite punters is that twelve of the last 16 winners have been outsiders of 10/1 plus. Therefore if you are looking to hit that outside bet, this might be the race for you.
Outsider: Elixir De Nutz 20/1
Tip: Saint Segal 12/1
17:30 – Champion Bumper
Willie Mullins is clearly determined to leave a legacy so long-lasting that this race will one day be named after him. He has won this race for the last three years and 12 of the last 30 runnings.
He stands a great chance of adding to his record, but it is worth pointing out that he doesn’t have the favourite for this race. Dream to share, trained by John Kiely, holds that tag this year, but the presence of Mullins is likely to be daunting. Below, our betting expert has selected two cracking selections.
Tip: Champion Bumper 4/1
Outsider: Fact to File 7/1
