FA Cup Final Preview

The stakes have rarely been higher in a single game of football. For United, the chance to lift a second trophy in Erik ten Hag’s opening season is huge, but perhaps even more importantly, they could put to bed any chance City have of equaling the famous 1998/99 treble-winning campaign.

City head to London on the brink of history. They have been a ruthless winning machine all season, and just two more victories would see them match their biggest rival’s greatest-ever achievement.

We have enjoyed two Manchester derbies already this season, with each team coming away with a win on home soil. It has been a relatively even fixture over the years, but United’s form away from Old Trafford has been called into question ahead of the tie.

United’s 2022/23 Premier League home record was bettered only by Man City. The Red Devils accumulated 48 points at Old Trafford, 21 more than they managed away from home. On top of this, no team in the top eight scored fewer away (22 goals in 19 games) away from home and only Tottenham conceded more.

The 89 points might seem a little low by City’s incredibly high standards, but they have found an extra gear when it has really mattered. This was no more apparent than when they hammered reigning champions of Europe Real Madrid 4-0 in front of a jubilant Etihad crowd.

While City will be strong favourites, as they have been in almost every game they have featured in this season, the United dressing room will be quietly confident in upsetting the odds.

Man City vs Man United Football Preview

City are 1.47 favourites ahead of the FA Cup final, while United can be backed at a huge 6.00. Most are expecting goals, with over 2.5 (1.60) and over 3.5 (2.48) well backed. Both teams to score (1.74) is also heavily favoured, with either side to keep a clean sheet (2.02) enough to double your stake.

Rather unsurprisingly, Erling Haaland is leading the odds to open the scoring at 3.10, followed by his teammates Julian Alvarez (5.20), Riyad Mahrez (8.00) and Phil Foden (8.20). United’s main man Marcus Rashford is favourite to break the deadlock for the Reds, and he is tailed by Anthony Martial (11.00)

*Odds subject to change.

Man City win and both teams to score – 3.00

This bet has landed in two of the last three Manchester derbies. We expect United to cause problems in the transition, but we just can’t see them keeping this City side at bay.

Bet Builder: Man City win, over 2.5 goals, Man Utd over 29.5 booking points, Kevin De Bruyne to score at any time – 8.00

Each of the previous three meetings between these sides has seen over 2.5 goals, with 17 goals being scored in total. In both games this season, United have also registered 30 booking points. They will do everything they can to disrupt City’s attacking flow and the cards could come out fairly quickly.

When looking at goalscorers, it would be easy to settle on Haaland. However, United will likely cater their defensive plan to stop the record-breaker. As a result, it could be his teammate De Bruyne that benefits in and around the edge of the box.
