Royal Ascot: Day 3 Preview

It’s Gold Cup day at Royal Ascot and there is plenty of racing to look forward to! We’ve previewed Thursday’s action and put together our best betting tips from the latest horse racing odds.

14:30 – Norfolk Stakes

Most are expecting a two-horse race between favourite Elite Status and American Rascal in the opening race of the day, and it’s hard to argue otherwise. Noche Magica looks the best of the rest having won on debut at Cork on soft to heavy ground. Unlucky to lose out by a head to Givemethebeatboys (who finished fourth to River Tiber on Tuesday) in Curragh.

Noche Magica E/W @ 8.00

15:05 – King George V Stakes

Another cracking battle in the King George V Stakes, with Tagabawa, Burglar and Bertinelli all fancied. We like the look of Frankie Dettori and Burglar after impressive wins at Lingfield and Redcar this year, with the three-year-old the most likely challenger to Tagabawa. We’ve also picked out some each-way value in Wonder Legend, who cruised to a five-length victory at Doncaster earlier this year.

Burglar @ 5.50

Wonder Legend E/W @ 7.50

15:40 – Ribblesdale Stakes

With Al Asifah likely to be streaks ahead in the 15:40, we’re dipping into the each-way market once more. Warm Heart is our pick at 12.00. Ryan Moore likes to take up a prominent position early with the filly and proved more than capable of pushing on in the recent victory at Newbury, where Ribblesdale second-favourite Bluestocking was beaten by a head.

Warm Heart E/W @ 12.00

16:20 – Ascot Gold Cup

The jewel in the Ascot crown: the Gold Cup. We’re set for an extremely competitive race, with Coltrane just about edging out his rivals as favourite. We’re backing David Egan atop Eldar Eldarov. The four-year-old tasted Group 1 success at Doncaster last year and is primed to make the step up to challenge Coltrane.

We also fancy Trueshan each-way. Hollie Doyle will have her work cut out, but this is a horse that has beaten Eldar Eldarov already at Ascot, as well as beating Coltrane by a head here in October.

Eldar Eldarov @ 4.50

Trueshan E/W @ 19.00

17:00 – Britannia Stakes

Plenty to choose from in the 17:00 and we’re going with Racingbreaks Ryder. He has won three times already this year, most recently an impressive 3½ length victory over Tawafag at Ascot last month. James McDonald will have a lot of competition, but this horse has the quality to push the likes of Quantum Impact and Docklands all the way.

Racingbreaks Ryder E/W @ 17.00

17:35 – Hampton Court Stakes

We’re on Aidan O’Brien’s Drumroll in the penultimate race of the day. He has won twice this year at Curragh and Navan, but more notably, finished second by 1½ lengths to Irish Guineas champion Paddington, who also stormed to victory over Chaldean on Tuesday.

Drumroll @ 5.50

18:10 – Buckingham Palace Stakes

We’re back with Ryan Moore for the last race of the day, as the price on Biggles continues to drop. He is never too far from the front and has registered nine straight top-three finishes including five victories. He finished second at Ascot last month, beaten handily by Rebel Territory, but it wouldn’t be at all surprising to see him in the mix toward the end if Ryan Moore can establish a prominent position in the pack.

Biggles E/W @ 10.00
