Four in a Row for Man City?
It is probably best to start at the top: Manchester City. The sky blue juggernauts continue to dominate, and Pep’s men have a chance to make it four (yes, four!) in a row. It’s domination not really seen in the Premier League era, but the blue side of Manchester is looking better than ever having just won the treble and breaking a record the red side could only dream of. With Erling Haaland, Kevin De Bruyne, John Stones, and their plethora of world class talent, it’s hard to look past this blue behemoth. Will they do it again?
Top Four Contenders
But, after a shaky season last year, Liverpool could be back in the running. With some shrewd business this summer and some time to get together and calibrate, there’s every chance Jurgen has whipped his reds back into title-contending shape. Should the injuries that wrecked them last season stay away, they could put together a title run.
The top four spots are also wide open. Eddie Howe’s worked magic with his Newcastle side, and with their infinite backing, could they perform some more miracles? After last season’s woes, Chelsea continue to improve in pre-season. Without Champions League football to worry about, this surely is a chance to cash in on a top four spot.
United have now had a full season under Erik Ten Hag, but with more pressure than ever, it’s a big season for the Dutchman. With new signings and a clear out of some dead-wood, they will be looking for a bit of consistency to put themselves among the title contenders.
Spurs have a new boss at the helm and seem to have kept hold of their record goal scorer in Harry Kane, but it is yet to be seen if Ange Postecoglou can turn their fortunes around. Finally, last season’s runners-up. There’s no doubt Mikel Arteta has something cooking in North London. But the pressure is on this year. Expectations are back at the Emirates and with Champions League football they will have to be at their very best to repeat last year’s great form.
Ones-To-Watch
Last year threw up some real curveballs. Both Brighton and Aston Villa have their own European tours but will be keeping a keen eye on their league positions. Since Unai Emery took over last year, it’s been nothing short of miraculous at Villa Park. Whether he’s got a point to prove or just thrives with a shoestring budget, their climb up the table last year was incredible. But, with more fixtures and travel than before, Villa could have bitten off more than they can chew and find themselves in a relegation scrap.
Brighton. Where do you even start? Last year was nothing short of a fairytale. From their south coast fortress, they managed to take some serious scalps and their pragmatic business suggests things will only be getting better. Could this be the year when they really push on a go for a top four spot?
The Dogfight
It’s going to be rough down there. Luton are back in the big time along with Burnley and Sheffield United. Vincent Kompany’s style worked wonders last year but it’s yet to be seen if he can mix with the very best. All three will surely be aiming for survival and ensuring they don’t drop straight back into the championship.
The likes of Nottingham Forest, Everton, and Crystal Palace also spent a large part of last season battling it out at the foot of the table. Everton have been riding their luck for a few seasons now and things don’t seem to be changing. This could finally be their curtain call. There’s so much at stake, and so little to split these sides, we’ll just have to wait and see who scraps harder.
