Chelsea vs Liverpool Preview
Pochettino has been handed an extremely tough test to start his Premier League tenure with Chelsea. The Blues will take to the pitch on Sunday afternoon with a completely new-look team. They have parted ways with the core of last season’s squad, including Kai Havertz, Mason Mount, Mateo Kovacic, Christian Pulisic, Kalidou Koulibaly, and Edouard Mendy, replacing them with Robert Sanchez, Angelo, Lesley Ugochukwu, Nicolas Jackson, Axel Diasi, and Christopher Nkunku.
We’re not convinced anybody knows quite what we’ll see from Chelsea this season. Yes, they have brought in some talented players, but will they gel? Rarely do so many changes get made so quickly to a top side. What’s more, they will be without the services of star signing Nkunku after he was ruled out for at least a month through injury.
Liverpool have also made changes, but nowhere near to the same extent. Klopp has opted against signing absolutely everyone his scouts recommended, instead choosing to clear out some deadwood and bolster the midfield with Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai. After an injury-plagued campaign cost them Champions League football last year, Klopp’s Reds will likely be back to their energetic best.
It is a fantastic fixture to bring the opening Premier League weekend to an end. You’d have to think Liverpool will take the game to Chelsea, and until that whistle is blown for kick-off, we really have no clue how Chelsea will perform.
Premier League Matchday 1 Betting Odds
Chelsea will head into their first home game as 2.80 underdogs, while Liverpool make the trip south as 2.36 favourites, with a draw priced at 3.47. Both teams to score is heavily backed at 2.55, with over 1.5 (1.22), over 2.5 (1.68), and over 3.5 (2.70) goals attracting plenty of attention.
Liverpool’s main man Mo Salah is leading the odds to open the scoring at 5.90, followed by teammates Darwin Nunez (6.90) and Diogo Jota (7.20). Chelsea’s new signing Nicolas Jackson (7.80) is favourite to break the deadlock for the Blues, tailed by Raheem Sterling (8.80).
Chelsea vs Liverpool Betting Tips
Liverpool win to nil – 4.42
Liverpool look a far more well-rounded side in the build-up to the game, and there are just so many question marks surrounding Chelsea’s business and adaptation to life under Pochettino. It should be an end-to-end game, but we think Liverpool will come away with three points.
Bet Builder: Liverpool win, over 1.5 goals, Mo Salah to score at any time – 4.33
This covers a Liverpool win but also allows for Chelsea finding the net too. As for goalscorers, it’s difficult to look beyond Mo Salah. The Egyptian may be heading toward the back end of his prime, but there are plenty of miles left in the winger.
