Tottenham vs Manchester United Preview
Both sides got themselves off to underwhelming starts. Manchester United were very, very lucky to take all three points against Wolves on Monday night, while Tottenham played well against Brentford but had to settle with a draw with their West London neighbours. So with this one, there’s everything to play for.
Life under Ange Postecoglou has looked like an improvement. Last season was one to forget for Spurs and when their all time hero and talisman Harry Kane left, it seemed like it could all go very wrong on matchday one. Where will the goals come from? Who will lead the line? Who wears the number 10 now? There’s lots of unanswered questions here, and Spurs will obviously miss the endless goals and assists from their all time record goal scorer. Richarlison will really have his work cut out to get even half the number Kane has been producing over the last few seasons.
However, it’s not all doom and gloom. ‘Angeball’ could be the reset this club has needed over the past few seasons. They looked genuinely good against Brentford and towards the back end of the match would have been deserving of a winner, moving the ball and looking confident with a clear style that suits the team they have. With the addition of Maddison, if they can get Son, Klasevski and Richarlison firing, they could be genuine top four contenders.
On the other side, all the chat surrounding United was positive. A good transfer window where business was done early. Ten Hag got the players he wanted to suit the system. A ball playing keeper in Onana which signified the end of David De Gea’s time with the Red Devils. This one had been coming and seemed like a marquee signing; one that showed the intent and change of style Ten Hag hoped would bring success to Old Trafford. Add Mason Mount amongst a few other shrewd signings, the chatter around United seemed to be dark horses to go all the way.
But, they were poor against Wolves and lucky to take all three points. Wolves had more shots than any visiting side since 2005, a stonewall penalty turned down and looked like the side likely to go on and win the match. They were weak in midfield and seemed to be lacking up front. Rashford didn’t have his best game while Mount and the rest of the United midfield were outplayed by a Wolves side who lost their manager four days before the match. Worrying to say the least. The positive, three points nonetheless.
With Spurs looking for their first win and Manchester United looking for their first good performance it’s a game that seems to always deliver goals and controversy. The pressures on both sides, let’s hope it lives up to expectations!
Premier League Matchday 1 Betting Odds
Despite an underwhelming start, United still secured three points and head into this one as favourites at 2.33. The draw is 3.65 which could be a likely result as both sides certainly won’t want to lose this one. Spurs, the home side, come in as underdogs at 2.73 but won’t mind that as they hunt for their first win of the season.
Marcus Rashford is leading the odds to score first at 5.80. Then it’s a scrum with Heung-Min Son, Richarlison and Anthony Martial all tipped at 7.50 to open the scoring in this one.
Tottenham Hotspur vs Manchester United Betting Tips
Draw – 6.30
Both sides definitely won’t want to lose this one. For United, a point away at Spurs definitely isn’t a bad result after their first game. For Spurs, they will really want to take all three points but they won’t want to lose at home. It’s lining up like it could be cagey from both sides with the pressure not to lose higher than the pressure to win.
Bet Builder: Manchester United to win, total goals over 1.5 and total corners over 8.5 – 3.40
This one covers Manchester United to win but also Spurs to find the net. With United’s defence being their let down over the last couple of years, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Spurs score.
