France vs Ireland
We’re kicking things off in Paris where Group B leaders France look to extend their perfect record against Ireland. Les Bleus have won all four games thus far without conceding, including a narrow 1-0 win in the reverse fixture in Dublin. Kylian Mbappe already has four goals and two assists to his name and comes into this game on the back of five goals in three games for PSG. As always, he’ll be the man to stop.
Ireland have only managed one win out of three but will take confidence from their last meeting with France. Stephen Kenny’s side restricted the two-time European champions to just three shots on target and a rather uninspired 0.88xG. Of course, it will be an uphill battle at the Parc des Princes, but it may not be as one-sided as people think.
France win: 1.22
Score prediction: 2-0
Netherlands vs Greece
After a 4-0 defeat to France in their opening Euro 2024 qualifier, followed by a 3-0 win over Gibraltar, the Netherlands find themselves playing catch up in Group B. Despite playing a game less, a draw against Greece would see them remain three points off the qualification spots, while defeat would increase that gap to six. It hasn’t been smooth sailing since losing on penalties to Argentina at the World Cup. The win over Gibraltar is their only victory in four games since.
Greece have been the standout package thus far. They kicked things off with a 3-0 win over Gibraltar, followed by a deserved three points against Ireland. A Mbappe penalty was all that stood between them and a point in France. They have made themselves tough to beat and could provide somewhat of a shock result
Draw: 4.10
Score prediction: 1-1
Serbia vs Hungary
This should be a cracking affair with the two nations locked on seven points at the summit of Group G. They are the two favourites to progress, with this meeting having a huge say on who will finish top. Hungary are yet to concede in three games having beaten Bulgaria and Lithuania at home. However, their away form leaves a lot to be desired after they failed to impress in Montenegro.
Serbia have gone from strength to strength since their disappointing group stage exit at the World Cup. They have won four of five games, drawing the other away in Bulgaria. You have to think the hosts have the edge. A star-studded midfield features the likes of Dusan Tadic and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, while the attack is led by in-from Dusan Vlahovic, who has netted three times already in this competition.
Serbia win: 1.70
Score prediction: 2-1
Slovenia vs Northern Ireland
All is still to play for in Group H with the top four nations separated by just two points. Slovenia are in the mix to qualify, with three points this week crucial if they are to keep pace. A solid side is spearheaded by 20-year-old Benjamin Sesko, who scored twice in 12 minutes to secure RB Leipzig’s victory over Union Berlin last weekend. He could well be the difference-maker on Thursday night.
It’s not looking good for Northern Ireland. Aside from a routine 2-0 win over San Marino, they have lost three consecutive matches 1-0. They are compact and well-drilled defensively but it’s not easy to predict where their attacking spark might come from.
Slovenia win: 1.77
Score prediction: 2-0
