Manchester City to beat Wolves @ 1.31
Let’s start off with an easy one. Pep Guardiola’s men have had a near-perfect start to the season. The Sky Blue juggernauts seem to be rampant and travel to the Molineux this weekend hoping to make it seven wins from seven and continue their perfect start to the league campaign.
On the other hand, it’s been a sticky start for the Wanderers. While they might take some comfort in playing well against Liverpool, Jurgen Klopp’s men just had too much for them. Following a whole host of missed chances, they came away with nothing. After losing away to Ipswich this week, things seem to be going from bad to worse for Wolves. It could be a question of how many this weekend.
Tottenham to beat Liverpool @ 2.91
Tottenham versus Liverpool always seems to throw up some weird results. Lately, Liverpool have had much the better of Spurs. They haven’t lost to them in the League since way back in 2017 when the two sides had a completely different makeup. Spurs have since then, moved stadiums, had three new managers, and lost their talismanic frontman Harry Kane. But it would seem things are actually beginning to change for them, and under Ange Postecoglou, they look like a completely different club, let alone a team.
Fresh from the North London derby, a game they will be relatively pleased with, they arrive at home this week looking to continue a good start. For Liverpool, it’s all about the league this year and they are yet to slip up. However, this is probably the biggest test of the season for the Reds and they haven’t played anyone of this quality yet. After going behind last week to Arsenal and having the determination to come back, Spurs come into this in slightly better form. It looks like they really are a force to be reckoned with this year and will hope to put a statement win down this weekend.
Brighton to beat Aston Villa @ 2.56
Is there a better run club in English-maybe world-football right now than Brighton? Probably not. After another win last weekend, you wonder if their bubble will ever burst. Are they destined for an actual title and Champions League football push? As the weeks go by and the free-flowing, fluid, and quite frankly brilliant football continues from Roberto De Zerbis’s men, there’s no reason why they can’t go for it. They seem to have the players, the coach, and the setup to wring out every bit of quality from the players.
This might seem a little harsh on Villa. After beating Chelsea last weekend they will be buzzing and eager to keep up their good form in this one. However, beating Chelsea isn’t actually that hard at the moment. While it may seem like a statement of victory for Villa, they face much tougher opposition this weekend and the Seagulls have been one of the best sides in Europe this season.
Leeds to beat Southampton @ 2.24
Normally, never bet on the early kick-off. However, I’m making an exception for this one as Leeds takes on the Saints. Leeds haven’t lost to Southampton since April 2022 and have looked like one of the in-form sides in the Championship of late. After bashing Watford 3-0 at home last weekend, they’ll want to continue this form as they head to Saint Mary’s. Striker Joel Piroe has been phenomenal and is quickly becoming a fan favourite.
On the other hand, after a brilliant start, Southampton have encountered issues. New manager Russell Martin was bouncing, but after a 5-0 hammering away at Sunderland, as well as losses to both Leicester and Ipswich, things aren’t looking quite right on the south coast. How long before Saints fans get frustrated with their new manager? Leeds will want to take advantage of the swirling issues this weekend and continue their promotion push.
Exeter to beat Northampton @ 2.03
Giant-killing Exeter will want to continue their good form this weekend against the Cobblers. A remarkable win for Exeter against Premier League Luton was the upset of the season so far and there’s a positive aura emanating from this side at the moment. They currently sit sixth in the table but they will hope the mid-week win will give them a bounce into the weekend.
Northampton are struggling and have lost their last three on the spin. It’s been a really hard start for a side that got promoted last season. Turns out, it’s pretty hard work in League One for a club like Northampton. Exeter will want to put the new boys to the sword and continue their good form. Could we see them rise up the table off the back of their famous victory?
