Real Madrid to beat Napoli – 2.52
With both of these sides winning their opening fixture, this one is going to end one side’s undefeated record. It took a last-minute winner from Jude Bellingham to secure all three points for Los Blancos but they face a considerably harder task this weekend as they travel to face the Italian champions. Napoli have been in good form; beating Braga on UCL matchday 1 and also a thumping 4-0 victory over Lecce in Serie A.
But Real Madrid were also 3-0 winners over Girona in La Liga and look to be getting into gear. And as we all know, once this Madrid side gets up and running, they really take some stopping. There aren’t many better in world football, if any. Napoli have been far from perfect in the league and there seems to be some hangover (quite literally!) from last season’s historical league win. Although Madrid needed a 94th-minute winner against Union Berlin, the 14-time winners are a different beast in this tournament and always seem to find a way to win.
Borussia Dortmund to beat AC Milan – 2.33
Welcome back to the group of death. AC Milan, Dortmund, PSG, and Newcastle are all battling it out to get through to the next stage. It’s lining up to be massive. Both of these sides are yet to win and although we’ve only had one week, things will start to get very difficult very quickly. For Dortmund, their loss to PSG was unfortunate but not the end of the world. It’s probably the hardest game they’ll have in the group stage.
Whereas for Milan, a 0-0 draw at home to Newcastle is less than ideal if they have realistic aspirations of getting out of the group. It also doesn’t get any easier as they travel to Signal Iduna Park, where Dortmund haven’t lost since August 2022. Things don’t look great for Milan who also took a battering in the derby losing 5-1 to Inter. That’s been their toughest test until now. Dortmund will fancy themselves in this one after another convincing win this weekend and three wins on the spin. Their tails are up going into this one.
Newcastle United to beat PSG – 2.49
Here we go! This is probably the pick of the games. Newcastle’s first home Champions League fixture since 2003. They have been on fire; an 8-0 pumping against Sheffield United, a regulation 2-0 win against Burnley that they made look easy, and a historical victory against Manchester City. On the other hand, things have unsurprisingly not been ideal at PSG. A hectic start has left them two points off the top of the French table with a little bit of ground already to make up. They had to settle for a 0-0 draw this weekend in which they were far from their best.
Newcastle haven’t conceded in five matches and are probably the in-form side in the Premier League. With a famous victory over City to knock them out of the League Cup, it makes you wonder just how far this side could go. They are so well run and the tactics, players, and staff all seem to be singing from the same hymn book. It may seem like an upset, but Newcastle really deserve their place in this competition and will be causing some big clubs big trouble!
Arsenal to beat Lens – 1.59
The Gunners enjoyed their first game back in this competition. A comfortable 4-0 home win over PSV looked like an easy job for Mikel Arteta’s men and they will be feeling confident as they travel to Lens. For Lens, it’s been an incredible journey coming all the way from Ligue 2 and now rubbing shoulders with the European elite. They drew in their opening fixture, which wasn’t the worst result against a good Sevilla side.
For Arsenal, it’s about continuing the good start. They have a squad brimming with quality and confidence and look absolutely suited to this level. After a 4-0 battering of Bournemouth this weekend, they will bounce into this one. They haven’t looked troubled by anybody this season. Although Lens were last year’s Ligue 1 runners-up, Arsenal seems to be a level above most other sides at the moment and have their eyes set on topping this group.
Barcelona to beat Porto – 1.83
Barcelona come flying into this one in great form. The Catalonians are unbeaten yet this season and will want to continue that as they travel to Porto. Although they’re away from home, it won’t phase this young exciting team from making it another win and continuing their unbeaten run. Xavi’s side tore Belgium’s Royal Antwerp apart in a 5-0 slapping a fortnight ago. After a few years of finishing below par, Barca finally look like a real force again. Their young side has a really high ceiling they will hope to fulfil.
Joao Felix has been one of the top players in Europe and we all know just how good of a striker Robert Lewandowski is. When they find form they are one of the best sides in Europe, it’s just about keeping up the momentum. Porto are missing a whole host of starting players through injury or suspension. It’s not a great time to be losing key players as this Barcelona side rolls into town.
