Arsenal vs Manchester City Preview

Arsenal vs Manchester City hasn’t always been a classic. For Manchester City in recent years, it’s been somewhat of a formality. Last season it was a two-horse race, with the Gunners leading for the majority of the season but succumbing to City late in the day. They were the only side that really pushed City in their treble-winning season. For Arsenal, it was a case of too much too soon as the veteran league winners edged them out on the home stretch of the season.

The Citizens haven’t lost a league game to Arsenal since December 2015. During the Arsene Wenger days, it seemed that Man City would always have a way of beating the Gunners. For a while, City just looked a class above and the results were unsurprising. Arsenal just weren’t at the same level.

This, however, is no longer the case. Arsenal, along with Liverpool are now direct challenges to City’s crown.  Outside of the league, Arsenal have had some big results. They won the first meeting between these two sides in the season opener, narrowly edging them out on penalties to claim the Community Shield.

But City in the league seem to be a different beast. Last season Manchester City did the double home and away over Arsenal. The penultimate game a 4-1 mauling at the Etihad ended Arsenal’s title challenge; in which Kevin De Bruyne put on a masterclass. It exemplified just how far Arsenal need to go if they are serious contenders for City’s crown.

Arsenal come into this one undefeated in the league, while City’s shock loss last weekend against Wolves was their first loss of the season. While they still sit top of the league, could it be the start of a blip? Arsenal’s star boy, Bukayo Saka, is a huge doubt for the weekend, which is a massive miss for them. Gabriel Martinelli is also likely to miss out with a hamstring injury.

For City, they play their final game without Rodri after his red card suspension. His importance to this City side has been evident since his time out, losing to both Newcastle and Wolves. They are still without Kevin De Bruyne but John Stones and Bernardo Silva should be back.

Latest Premier League Football Odds

Manchester City come into this one as slight favourites to win away from home and get their league form back on track. Their 2.41 to win at the Emirates and go clear at the top of the table. For Arsenal, this is probably their only home game where they come in as the underdogs at 2.91. The draw is placed at 3.21.

In terms of scorers, of course, Erling Haaland leads the odds at 4.33 to open the scoring in this one and is at 2.16 to score anytime. His strike partner Julian Alvarez is 7.90 to score first, with Arsenal strikers Eddie Nketiah and Gabriel Jesus at 3.90 and 3.97 to score anytime.

Arsenal vs Manchester City Betting Tips

BTTS: Erling Haaland to score anytime, Manchester City to win, and over 1.5 goals @ 3.75

Haaland didn’t score in the last league match. I can imagine it’s the sort of thing that drives him crazy, and odds are he’ll be right back on it. City also have a great record at the Emirates and will want to open up a bit of breathing space at the top of the table.

Julian Alvarez to score first @ 7.90

Secretly, Alvarez is one of the best strikers in the Premier League, he’s just having to compete with a certain Erling Haaland for game time. After bagging last week he’ll likely be in the side and could well break the deadlock.

Over 3 goals in the match @ 2.55

There always seems to be goals in this one and with two attacks this good, its likely to be the case again. Man City will play their high press and with the pace of Arsenal’s attack, they could nick a few themselves.
