Australian Open Final Preview
Jannik Sinner records historic win against Novak Djokovic
It’s all about Sinner in the build-up to the Australian Open main event. The 22-year-old didn’t just beat the most decorated player in the history of the sport…he obliterated him.
The 3-1 victory saw Sinner claim 24 games, while Djokovic managed just 13. We’ve never seen the Serbian beaten quite so handily.
Plenty are suggesting Djokovic’s decline is near. We’re not so sure. He cruised to the semi-final and dispatched of number 12 seed Taylor Fritz with relative ease. It just wasn’t to be this time around fo Djoko.
But that’s enough talk about the world number one. All the focus should be on young Sinner, who has now beaten Djokovic in three of their last four meetings. As a result, he comes into his first Grand Slam final a huge favourite.
Underdog Daniil Medvedev on the hunt for a second Grand Slam
While the media swarm around Sinner, on the opposite side of the net, Medvedev will be hoping to secure his second Grand Slam title. The last time he tasted victory was the 2021 US Open, where he beat Djokovic in straight sets.
Medvedev was in fine form toward the back end of 2023, reaching the Wimbledon semi-final and finishing as runner-up in the US Open. The Russian has carried that form into the new year.
The number three seed defied odds in the semi-final, coming from two sets down to beat Alexander Zverev 3-2.
The head-to-head between Sinner and Medvedev is incredibly even, although the Italian has enjoyed more success in the recent years. Medvedev won six matches in a row against Sinner from 2020 to 2023 but Sinner has won the three since.
Latest Jannik Sinner vs Daniil Medvedev Odds

For the total sets market, the odds are currently 2.28 for a 3-0 in either direction, while the maximum of five sets to be played is at 3.37.
Australian Open Final Betting Tips
1st Set Total Games: Under 9.5 @ 2.00
Sinner got off to a flying start against Djokovic, winning 6-1 and 6-2 in the opening two sets. In contrast, Medvedev lost the first two sets against Zverev. If Sinner can carry his momentum into the final, he could rack up the first set pretty swiftly.
Jannik Sinner to win the Australian Open @ 1.35
All the evidence points towards a first Grand Slam for Sinner. He was far more convincing in the semi-finals than Medvedev and has also gotten the better of recent exchanges between the two. The Italian has won three successive matches against Medvedev, most recently a 2-1 victory in the Turin ATP semi-final back in November.
