Wolves vs Manchester United Preview
Gary O’Neil has done a fantastic job since arriving in the Midlands with Wolves currently among the most in-form teams in England. Since a 3-0 pre-Christmas defeat to West Ham, Wolves are unbeaten in seven, winning four and drawing three.
In that same period, Manchester United have played six, winning three and losing just once. However, when you factor in two of those victories came against League One Wigan and League Two Newport County, it doesn’t make for quite such positive reading.
Wolves have been particularly impressive on home soil. Their last defeat at Molineux came back in September, a 3-1 defeat to league leaders Liverpool. They prepare to welcome United having won three consecutive home matches: 2-1 vs Chelsea, 3-0 vs Everton, and a 3-2 extra-time win against Brentford.
In contrast, Erik ten Hag’s side have had a torrid time on the road this season. If you ignore FA Cup wins against lower-league opposition, United are without a win in five away games. This includes three defeats against Newcastle, West Ham and Nottingham Forest. But it’s not just the losses which are cause for concern. It’s the manner of those defeats. The Red Devils have scored once in four league away games. Only Sheffield United have scored fewer league goals on the road.
Latest Premier League Betting Odds
The odds are split almost perfectly down the middle. Wolves are at 2.59 to claim all three points, with a United win at 2.56 and a draw priced at 3.41. In spite of United’s poor form in front of goal away from home, both teams to score is heavily backed at 1.63.
The goalscorers market is interesting. Rasmus Hojlund and Marcus Rashford are leading the odds to break the deadlock at 7.00 and 7.40 respectively, with Wolves’ Matheus Cunha (7.50) the most likely to open the scoring for the hosts.
Wolves vs Manchester United Betting Tips
Wolves to win or draw @ 1.47
United’s away record is damning, while Wolves have been brilliant at home. This one isn’t rocket science. The Reds have looked completely uninspired away from home and we can’t see that changing anytime soon.
Wolves to score over 1.5 goals @ 2.32
United leak goals. They played near enough their best XI at Newport County and still conceded twice. When you also factor in Wolves have scored two or more goals in five of their last seven home games, it looks an astute selection at 2.32.
Bet Builder: Draw, Matheus Cunha to score anytime, Casemiro to be carded @ 19.00
If you’re looking for longer odds, why not delve into the Bet Builder markets? You can never fully write off this United side and a draw could be on the cards. Cunha has shouldered the goalscoring responsibilities in Hee-Chan Hwang’s absence, while Casemiro is a walking yellow card if he starts.
