Manchester City vs Arsenal Preview
This game is as big as they come. A single point separates frontrunners Arsenal and Liverpool from third-place City ahead of this weekend.
It would be a touch dramatic to suggest defeat could spell the end of the title charge for either side but it would certainly put a huge dent in their chances.
City come into this tie off the back of a 2-0 FA Cup quarter-final victory over Newcastle, extending their unbeaten run in all competitions to 22.
Pep Guardiola’s side are also undefeated at the Etihad this season and have won nine of their last 10 home games.
Arsenal are also in fine form as they head north, winning eight consecutive league games, scoring a remarkable 33 goals along the way.
They also travel well. No team has picked up more points, scored more goals, or conceded fewer away from home this season.
However, their record at the Etihad does not make for good reading. Look away now Arsenal fans.
The Gunners have lost their last eight away games against City, failing to score in four of the previous five. Mikel Arteta has not won a single point there since swapping City Sky Blue for Arsenal Red.
That being said, Arsenal’s 1-0 win in the reverse fixture at the Emirates will give them hope. They went blow for blow with City that day, coming out on top thanks to an 86th-minute Gabriel Martinelli strike.
Latest Premier League Betting Odds
City are, rather unsurprisingly, favourites on home soil at 1.90, although there is still some value in those odds.
Arsenal will make the trip as 3.88 underdogs with a draw priced at 3.75.
Despite just one goal being scored in their previous encounter, goals have been heavily backed. Both teams to score (1.66), over 1.5 goals (1.23) and over 2.5 goals (1.76) have attracted plenty of attention.
Erling Haaland is leading the odds to break the deadlock at 4.75, followed by teammates Julian Alvarez and Phil Foden at 8.70.
Gabriel Jesus and Bukayo Saka are favoured to open the scoring for Arsenal at 9.50.
Manchester City vs Arsenal Betting Tips
Man City win and both teams to score – 3.47
This selection goes against the historical record at the Etihad. But here us out. City have been far from their best defensively this season, even at home.
They have conceded in four of their last seven home games, and four of their last five in all competitions. Arsenal have also scored 17 goals in their previous three Premier League away games.
There has got to be goals…surely?
Bet Builder: Both teams to score, over 2.5 goals, Kai Havertz to score anytime, Rodri to be carded – 13.00
Kai Havertz has hit a purple patch and is Arteta’s preferred man to lead the line this campaign. The 24-year-old has netted four in six appearances for Arsenal, as well as getting on the scoresheet for Germany in their 2-0 win over France.
Rodri looks a good pick to be carded. The defensive midfielder has racked up eight bookings in the league this season and there is a common theme.
He tends to get cautioned in big games, tasked with committing professional fouls to stop transitions. He was booked against Chelsea, Tottenham, Newcastle, and Liverpool just a few weeks ago.
Manchester City vs Arsenal: Predicted Lineups
Man City: Ortega, Walker, Stones, Akanji, Ake, Rodri, Silva, De Bruyne, Doku, Foden, Haaland
Arsenal: Raya, White, Saliba, Gabriel, Kiwior, Rice, Odegaard, Jorginho, Saka, Havertz, Trossard
