Power Slap 8 Recap: VanZant Stars On Debut

Former Ultimate Fighting Championship star Paige VanZant claimed a big victory on her slap-fighting debut at Power Slap 8.

Her bout against Christine Wolmarans was arguably the big talking point in the build up to the massive event in Fontainebleau, Las Vegas.

VanZant’s Debut to Remember

VanZant claimed her first combat sports triumph since 2019 with a comfortable victory over Wolmarans.

Ahead of the bout, the two could hardly be split in terms of odds but VanZant delivered a dominant display and proved she has a huge future in Power Slap.

The ex-UFC fighter scored two knockdowns on her way to a victory by unanimous decision.

VanZant absorbed every single blow from Wolmarans, all while returning some thunderous hits of her own that nearly shook the arena.

Wolmarans also got a fourth shot in the three-round battle after VanZant was caught flinching but even that had no impact on the outcome.

The judges scored the bout 30-25 in VanZant’s favour – and we now cannot wait to watch her next Power Slap match!

Title Defended

In the Power Slap 8 main event, Da Crazy Hawaiian retained his Super Heavyweight belt against Danie van Heerden.

Da Crazy Hawaiian, real name Koa Viernes, scored two knockdowns and nearly registered a third on his way to a comfortable(ish) victory by unanimous decision.

Van Heerden showed some serious grit in the five-round battle but could not really hurt his opponent, who seemed to absorb every single shot with relative ease.

Van Heerden was even given an extra slap in the first round after Da Crazy Hawaiian was deducted a point for ‘clubbing’, however, it had little, if any, impact whatsoever.

The judges scored it 48-44, 47-45 and 47-45 in favour of the champ.

A Major Upset

Welterweight star Anthony Blackburn went into his title bout as a big underdog and still emerged victorious by split decision in an epic clash with Emanuel Muniz.

But Blackburn also went into this fight on the back of a shock knockout victory over Chris Thomas at Power Slap 7, so it is perhaps no surprise that he defied the odds once again in the co-main event.

Blackburn and Muniz went toe-to-toe in a brilliant five-round match, one that could barely be split by the judges.

Both displayed incredible levels of toughness and skill but it was Blackburn who won the belt with scores of 48-47 on two of the three judges’ cards.
