The Netherlands and England meet in the semi-finals of Euro 2024.

Preview

Following a stuttering start to the competition, the Netherlands seem to have found their feet and look more impressive with every outing, particularly up front.

Xavi Simons provides creative flair and support for the man in form, Cody Gakpo, as well as numerous other attacking options. Their defensive organisation thanks to captain Virgil van Dijk, combined with Koeman’s adaptive style of play, will pose a problem for England.

Fast progression and work-rate will be a nightmare for a measured and patient England side who are as of yet untested against a squad that will look to take the game to them.

England will hope to appease fans with a vastly improved performance this time around. The hugely talented squad has not really got going so far, with many believing it is due to the restraints of manager Gareth Southgate’s tactical system.

The Three Lions look reserved and a shell of the team they should be with the quantity of world-class players available for selection. The buzz words on commentary during England games seem to be ‘reactive not proactive’, suggesting passivity and an unwillingness to get involved in an attacking game.

But from previous wins it is easy to see that the players care and are passionate about representing their country, they just need to find that spark to take them over the line. Despite all criticisms, they will play in a semi-final on Wednesday, which is no easy feat.

And the players are exactly the reason why you cannot count England out. Such a talented squad is capable of surprises like the ones we have seen so far and even in a system that perhaps does not suit their needs, the Three Lions can never be overlooked by any opponent.

Odds

*Odds are subject to change

The odds predict this to be a tight game with the Netherlands entering as marginal underdogs, at 3.25 to play in the final. England are the preferred option with odds of 2.56 to make the trip to Berlin for Sunday.

Betting Tips

No Kane, No Gain

England have scraped their way through to this point and we hope they can deliver a convincing performance for a stress free midweek clash. But if they are going to win in the regulation 90, there is only one way that is happening… 1-0. England to win with only one goal in the game is at 5.98.

Final Countdown

It is definitely set up to be a nervy match but we hope that the undeniable quality of the two teams opens the game up, rather than closes it off. Both teams to score is at 1.96.

Double Dutch

Based on previous evidence, there is the chance that the Netherlands overwhelm England. Their most likely goalscorer is Liverpool star Gakpo, who is at 4.50 to score anytime and 8.80 to open the scoring.
