With the European Championship and Copa America now condemned to history, it is time to refocus on domestic football.
In just under a month, the 2024-25 season kicks off and it is safe to say that most football fans cannot wait for the action to get started.
To further whet the appetite, NetBet has taken a look at the top 10 scorers from Europe’s top five leagues so far this year, including goals in the league, national and international cup competitions. Read on to discover the top 10.

10 – Cole Palmer (Chelsea) | 17 goals
Chelsea’s main man has been on fire in 2024. Palmer finished his first Premier League season with the Blues on 22 goals, as well as contributing 11 assists. Already one of the best players in the world, the sky’s the limit for the England international.
9 – Robert Lewandowski (Barcelona) | 17 goals
He may be 35 now but Lewandowski is showing absolutely no signs of slowing down. The Polish striker was born to find the back of the net and he will no doubt be key to Hansi Flick’s plans at Barcelona for the upcoming season.
8 – Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (Marseille) | 18 goals
Some believed Aubameyang’s career at the top level was very close to being over after leaving Arsenal but he silenced all his critics at Marseille. He bagged 18 goals in just 27 club appearances this year, while also finishing as last season’s Europa League top scorer with 10 strikes. Impressive stuff, although he has now completed a move to Saudi side Al Qadsiah.
7 – Vinicius Junior (Real Madrid) | 18 goals
What a year it has been for one of the Ballon d’Or favourites. Vinicius’ brilliance in the final third was key for Real Madrid as they won a historic LaLiga and Champions League double. Vinicius is currently averaging a goal every 117 minutes for Los Blancos in 2024.
6 – Phil Foden (Manchester City) | 18 goals
Foden has really evolved into an elite-level goalscorer this year. He finished the 2023-24 Premier League season with 19 goals to his name, two of them coming in the 3-1 final day victory over West Ham to seal the title. Can he improve that tally next season as City eye five consecutive top-flight crowns?
5 – Alexander Sorloth (Villarreal) | 18 goals
Sorloth struggled to make his mark at Crystal Palace but he is shining in Villarreal colours. The 28-year-old’s 18 strikes this calendar year have come from just 21 appearances and perhaps more impressively, he is averaging a goal every 86 minutes.
4 – Harry Kane (Bayern Munich) | 19 goals
After a blistering start to life at Bayern, Kane slowed down slightly in the second half of last season – although his record is still very, very good. The European Golden Boot winner will be eyeing more goals in 2024-25, as well as a first piece of silverware at club level.
3 – Jonathan David (Lille) | 19 goals
It is no wonder that Canadian star David is a name regularly seen in summer transfer rumour mills. Still only 24, he is slowly evolving into one of European football’s most prolific forwards. David finished last season with 19 goals in Ligue 1 to help Lille finish fourth – and secure a spot in the Champions League qualifiers.
2 – Erling Haaland (Manchester City) | 19 goals
Whenever there is a list featuring active goalscorers, you just know Haaland is going to be somewhere near the top. The Norwegian was far from at his best last season but still collected a second consecutive Premier League Golden Boot thanks to his 27 strikes. It is scary to think that he still has room for improvement…
1 – Kylian Mbappe (Real Madrid) | 23 goals
It still looks weird seeing ‘Real Madrid’ next to Mbappe’s name. While his final season at Paris Saint-Germain did not end with a Champions League title, goals were certainly not hard to come by. Mbappe is averaging a goal every 87 minutes at club level this year and he will be desperate to maintain that form in a Los Blancos jersey.
