Crawford vs Madrimov: Preview & Betting Tips

Terrence Crawford and Israil Madrimov are the headliners for this weekend’s stacked boxing card in Los Angeles, where two super-welterweight titles will be on the line in their fight alone.

Undefeated Crawford has four-weight world champion status on his mind when he steps into the ring against Madrimov, who is also undefeated. But someone’s 0 has got to go in what is set to be an absolute cracker.

Also on the undercard is a heavyweight clash that has plenty of reason to get excited about. Andy Ruiz Jr will take on Jarrell Miller, with a knockout seemingly guaranteed in this bout. Read on for our preview of both fights.

Uzbekistan’s Madrimov will defend his WBA title against a Crawford who has been on hiatus for a year after his career-defining dismantling of Errol Spence Jr. Many people’s pound-for-pound No1, Crawford was followed by rumours of a super-fight with Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, but cooler heads prevailed and he will face the very worthy Uzbek for the title.

Crawford is known for his relentless switch-hitting style and his huge boxing IQ. His experience will likely carry him far in this fight against a much younger opponent, with 30 less professional fights. Crawford has never been anything but dominant when he steps into the ring and his incredible strategy, as well as versatility, will be huge factors once again.

But Madrimov is no slouch and his unorthodox style, combined with youthful energy, will provide a puzzle that Crawford may have some difficulty solving. He is aggressive and determined, making a name for himself in a short amount of time in the sport. Even renowned promoter Eddie Hearn has tipped Madrimov to knock out Crawford and catapult himself to superstardom.

The other big fight on the card involves famed giant-killer and Mexican-American icon, Andy Ruiz Jr. He will take on fellow statesman Jarrell Miller in a clash that could shape the future of the heavyweight division. Miller is looking to bounce back and put his name back into contention for bigger fights after a knockout loss to Brit Daniel Dubois last time he entered the ring in Saudi Arabia.

Despite assumptions based on his appearance, Ruiz is not a fighter that relies on his one-punch power. He is an incredibly astute and intelligent boxer, with multiple strings to his bow and the ability to break down opponents in whichever way the fight requires. He will certainly take this approach against Miller this weekend, whose scary power is enough to put any opponent on alert.

Miller will be aggressive and take no backwards steps as he aims to set his career back on track, walking Ruiz down wherever he goes. The contrasting styles make for an extremely interesting fight, one that will be very hard to predict.

Terrence Crawford vs Israil Madrimov/Andy Ruiz Jr vs Jarrell Miller Odds

Ruiz Jr will step into the ring a 1.27 favourite to beat Miller, who currently sits at 3.55 for the upset win.

And in the main event, unsurprisingly, Crawford is the heavy favourite at 1.10. Madrimov is at 6.20 to complete what would be by far the biggest win of his career.

*Odds are correct at time of publication and subject to change

Champ Champ

It is likely that even a spirited display from underdog Madrimov will not be enough to beat the experienced veteran, who should outclass his much younger opponent. Crawford to win by KO is at 1.72.

Lucky No9

It is hard to predict how quickly the fight will heat up and whether predictions of a knockout will materialise. But if they do, our most likely round is the ninth. Crawford vs Madrimov to end in Round 9 is at 9.50.

El Rey

Despite the fiery nature of the fight and it seemingly shaping up to be a slug fest, Ruiz Jr is a calm and measured fighter who could easily dominate the fight for 12 rounds. Ruiz Jr by decision is at 1.90.

Championship Rounds

Again, contrary to all evidence the fight could be cagey with both men not wanting to risk a dent to their career with a loss and especially a knockout. Ruiz Jr vs Miller to go the distance is at 1.44.
