5 Unbreakable Premier League Records

The Premier League is arguably the biggest domestic football division in the world.

Since its inception in 1992, the English top flight has provided so much entertainment and we have seen some amazing records set.

But which of these records seem unbreakable? NetBet has taken a look at five achievements which we believe should stand the test of time.

Alan Shearer’s record haul of 260 goals was under consideration, but if Erling Haaland remains with Manchester City, he could very well surpass that total.

So, without further ado, here are the five that we have selected…

Fewest Goals Conceded In a Season – Chelsea

In 2004-05, Chelsea won the Premier League for the first time in Jose Mourinho’s debut season.

Winning 29 of their 38 matches and losing only once, the Blues were by far the best team in England that term.

Amazingly, they conceded only 15 goals thanks to a back-line featuring legendary figures like Petr Cech and John Terry. Cech kept 24 clean sheets in just 35 matches, which is also a division record.

With 2023-24 officially the highest-scoring season in Premier League history, we cannot see Chelsea’s pragmatic genius being equalled or topped.

Arsenal are the only other team to concede less than 20 goals in a season. But despite letting in only 17 during 1998-99, the Gunners still did not get their hands on the trophy as Manchester United reigned supreme.

Most Consecutive Premier League Appearances – Brad Friedel

With more matches being introduced and the intensity of the game on the rise, squad rotation has never been more important in the Premier League.

These days, it is quite rare that a player will feature in every single game during a season and that includes the goalkeepers.

That is why Friedel’s record looks very safe for the time being – which, to be honest, is a massive understatement.

The American stopper featured in 310 consecutive matches for Blackburn, Aston Villa and Tottenham between August 2004 and October 2012, somehow maintaining full fitness and avoiding suspension across eight full seasons.

Sure, luck was on Friedel’s side from an injury perspective, but take nothing away from an awesome display of availability that may not be possible now and moving forward.

Fastest Premier League Hat-Trick – Sadio Mane

Saying a record based solely on time is unbreakable would usually be a silly thing to say.

However, Mane’s treble for Southampton against Aston Villa is a rather unique case, as the numbers on show just boggle the mind.

The Senegalese winger bagged three goals in the space of two minutes and 56 seconds, less than a minute per goal.

Think about it, that is factoring in celebration, players returning to their respective halves and the time taken for Southampton to win the ball back, absolute madness.

The previous record was set by Robbie Fowler in 1994, who scored a hat-trick for Liverpool against Arsenal in four minutes and 33 seconds – which looks rather sluggish compared to Mane.

Longest Run of Home Matches Unbeaten – Chelsea

It is all about Chelsea again, who really were a formidable outfit in the 2000s.

Between March 2004 and October 2008, the Blues played 86 Premier League matches at their home stadium Stamford Bridge – and did not lose a single one of them.

After years and years of dominance, created by the managerial genius of Mourinho, a Xabi Alonso strike for Liverpool eventually saw the run come to an end.

Liverpool actually sit second on the list of longest unbeaten home runs, although they only managed to get up to 68 between April 2017 and January 2021.

A difference of 18 games shows just how insane Chelsea’s achievement was and still is. Some might say it is an unbreakable record…

Most Consecutive Premier League Seasons Scored In – Ryan Giggs

Scoring in 21 different Premier League seasons is ridiculous enough, but 21 in a row? It is the stuff of legend.

Thirteen-time title winner Giggs found the back of the net in every single campaign from 1992-93 until 2012-13.

The Welsh winger featured in 20 or more games in all 21 of those seasons, top scoring with 13 in 1993-94.

Giggs also holds the record for most assists in Premier League history with 162, although it would not be a surprise to see that total surpassed in the next decade or so.

But scoring in 21 consecutive seasons? A level of consistency and loyalty to the division which we will likely not see again, particularly with the harsh demands of modern football and the allure of foreign riches.
