Leicester vs Tottenham: Premier League Preview, Odds, Tips & More

The first Monday Night Football of the new Premier League season sees Top 4 hopefuls Tottenham travel to newly-promoted Leicester.

Ange Postecoglou’s Spurs will be desperate to qualify for next season’s Champions League after narrowly missing out on a place in Europe’s top-tier competition last term.

As for hosts Leicester, now managed by ex-Nottingham Forest boss Steve Cooper after Enzo Maresca’s move to Chelsea, they will simply be out to avoid relegation back to the Championship, which could be a tall order in truth.

Leicester vs Tottenham Preview

Leicester go into this game in a bit of a chaotic state, mainly due to their lack of activity in the transfer market.

The Foxes were also pretty dismal throughout their pre-season campaign, picking up just one win against Shrewsbury Town.

Cooper’s side suffered defeats to Palermo, Augsburg and Lens, conceding five goals in the process and scoring only one.

It remains to be seen whether they can cope with the harsh demands of Premier League football and if they do not get off to a good start, things could get ugly very, very quickly.

And Cooper’s more pragmatic style of play is a bit different to the expressive, possession-based football under Marseca, so there could be some initial teething problems at the King Power.

The onus will be on new signings Bobby De Cordova-Reid, Abdul Fatawu and Facundo Buonanotte (only on loan from Brighton) to hit the ground running.

As for Spurs, they are in a far better position, particularly after the £65 million signing of Dominic Solanke from Bournemouth.

Postecolgou’s side won four of their pre-season outings and the only two defeats were narrow ones to Bayern Munich (3-2 and 2-1).

However, Spurs will be without Yves Bissouma on Monday, as he is serving a club-enforced suspension for off-field antics.

That means summer signing Archie Gray is in line to make his Premier League debut and the 18-year-old’s lack of experience could be an area which Leicester target.

But more importantly, the Foxes’ leaky defence will have the likes of Solanke, Spurs captain Heung-Min Son and James Maddison licking their lips and envisioning a comfortable away win.

Maddison in particular will be out to impress against his former club, having endured a difficult end to last season.

This should be a match which Spurs grab by the scruff of the neck but on the opening weekend of a season, upsets can never be ruled out!

Leicester vs Tottenham Odds

Spurs go into the match as favourites at odds of 1.63, while Leicester are at 4.90 to pull off a shock Monday night victory.

Leicetser vs Tottenham Betting Tips

Dominic Solanke to score first @ 5.40

Postecoglou has hinted that Solanke will make his first Spurs start against Leicester. If he does feature in the starting XI, you have to fancy him to enjoy a brilliant debut by opening the scoring. Solanke scored 19 goals for Bournemouth in the Premier League last season. He is 2.27 to score anytime.

Tottenham to win and both teams to score @ 2.74

While we expect Spurs to eventually win in a fairly comfortable manner, we can also see them conceding at the King Power. The North London side failed to keep a single clean sheet in pre-season and Postecoglou’s gung-ho style of play often leaves the back-line a tad exposed.

Over 3.5 goals scored in the match @ 2.21

Given the fact both sides go into this match with defensive concerns, we can see there being goals aplenty in Leicester on Monday evening. Spurs to score over 2.5 goals by themselves is intriguingly priced at 2.52.
