Men’s US Open 2024 Preview
After the Olympics, many of the top ranked men have points to prove, with Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcaraz eager to bounce back in style.
The Spaniard suffered a devastating loss to Novak Djokovic in the gold medal match in Paris and was visibly upset. To be honest, he has not really recovered since.
Alcaraz crashed out of the Cincinnati Open in the early rounds, so he will need to be locked in if he is to get his hands on yet more silverware.
Italian star Jannik Sinner is another hopeful for the US Open title. He will be well rested after missing the Olympics through injury and ready to take on all opponents, especially after coming out on top in the preparation tournament in Cincinnati.
And, of course, defending champion and serial winner Djokovic is a name that simply must be mentioned. The newly-crowned Olympic gold medalist will be riding high and full of confidence going into the US Open – and you would be an absolute fool to bet against him winning this Grand Slam for the fifth time.
But can others perhaps stop him from adding another title to his sizeable trophy cabinet? British No1 Jack Draper will be competing in New York in addition to Dan Evans, with both men hoping to leave their mark on the tournament.
While the home hopes rest on the shoulders of Maryland’s in-form Francis Tiafoe, who narrowly missed out to Sinner in the Cincinnati Open final.
Women’s US Open 2024 Preview
As far as the women’s tournament is concerned, Aryna Sabalenka is at the top of the pile for many tennis fans with her ruthless and powerful style. She really is thrilling to watch and will be hoping to earn her first ever US Open title in 2024 after winning the recent Cincinnati Open, beating Iga Swiatek in the process.
Swiatek will be looking for her second title, although she was left disappointed with a bronze medal at the Olympics, so will hope to remind fans in New York of her undeniable quality.
A focused and locked in Swiatek is a scary proposition for any opponent and it will take a special performance to stop her coming out on top in Flushing Meadows.
Elena Rybakina may also fancy her chances heading into the tournament. However, the former Wimbledon champion had to withdraw from the Olympics with acute bronchitis, so she may not be at the very top of her game. However, someone with her talent can never be ruled out of contention.
The British contingent consists of Katie Boulter, Harriet Dart and 2021 US Open Champion Emma Raducanu – who would love nothing more than to repeat her heroics of three years ago.
And the home crowd will be firmly behind their top seeds Pegula and defending champion Coco Gauff, who will be eager to bounce back from her Round of 32 exit in Cincinnati.
