Southampton vs Manchester United Preview

Southampton have had a rough start to life back in the Premier League, losing all three of their games so far. They are 19th in the table and at risk of being left adrift if their form does not pick up soon. However, this may be a tough task when United visit this weekend.

All hope is far from lost, though, as with numerous summer signings, the Saints may just need some time to gel and consolidate their style of play. They have shown glimpses of promise with some lightning-fast transition play, with a highlight being the superb goal from new signing Yukinari Sugawara in a 3-1 loss to Brentford.

But Russell Martin’s side, for the most part, have been architects of their own downfall. While trying to play intricate football out from the back, they have committed numerous mistakes leading to goals, all entirely of their own making.

While it is admirable to some degree, the Saints have to get it right soon or risk being out of the survival race.

Erik Ten Hag’s United have had a similarly disappointing start to the new season, losing two out of three, their only saving grace being a 1-0 opening day victory over Fulham.

The Red Devils go into this weekend 14th in the table, but they have undoubtedly added positively to their squad with Matthijs de Ligt, Noussair Mazraoui, Joshua Zirkzee and Manuel Ugarte all coming through the door this summer.

United’s form will surely pick up, but if it does not do so quickly, the situation could go from bad to worse as morale drops and pressure mounts on the manager once again.

And with a tough run of games coming up, the trip to Southampton is of vital importance.

Southampton vs Manchester United Betting Tips

Goals Galore

With both sides being no stranger to a leak in their defence this season – and the international break potentially leading to some early carelessness – goals seem likely in this one. As such, both teams to score and United to win at 3.00 looks very tempting indeed…

Flying Dutchman

Zirkzee has started well at United, scoring the winner against Fulham. The Dutch striker looks tailor-made for the Premier league and we fancy him to open the scoring at St Marys at odds of 5.40.

Sweet Chile

But if you are looking at backing the Saints, their attacking threat is not to be sniffed at and they certainly have the tools to trouble United. Ben Brereton Diaz is certainly player to watch out for and he is 3.47 to score anytime in the match.
