Newcastle vs Manchester City Preview

Newcastle are setting their sights on a return to European football this season after they were brutally dumped out of contention by Manchester United unexpectedly winning the FA Cup last term.

The Magpies have started the season quite strongly, with the only blip being a 3-1 loss to Fulham last week. As such, they will be desperate to bounce back against City on Saturday.

Of course, their absence from European competition gives them scope to focus on the Premier League and ensure players are fully fit and prepared every week. This is not the case for City, who face Slovan Bratislava in the Champions League next week.

But Pep Guardiola will be very keen to remind the rest of the league about his team’s capabilities after a frustrating 2-2 draw with Arsenal last time out. The Gunners are in hot pursuit, so City will want to keep their momentum going and remain top of the pile after this weekend’s action.

To ease his pre-match nerves, Guardiola can look to Erling Haaland, who has scored 10 goals already this season in a record low of only five games. Everything the Norwegian touches turns to goals right now and he will be a big worry for Newcastle.

However, star midfielder Rodri, who has been so influential for City as one of the world’s best midfielders, is set to be ruled out for the rest of the season after suffering a serious knee injury against Arsenal.

This is a huge blow for the Citizens and has many questioning if they still have the capacity to challenge for the league title. But the re-signing of Ilkay Gundogan in the summer will provide some cover in that area – and we all know he has the ability to influence games in a similar fashion to the Spaniard.

Newcastle United vs Manchester City Odds

As they will be for every game for the rest of the season, City enter this one as favourites. They sit at 1.60 for the win. Newcastle will not be phased by being 4.90 underdogs, though.

Newcastle United vs Manchester City Betting Tips

Front and Centre

Both teams have extremely dynamic attacks and neither are invulnerable to penetration. Goals are likely when they meet this weekend and we are hoping for a thriller. Over 3.5 goals in the game is at 2.15.

Erl’s Court

It would be foolish to look any further than Haaland to get on the scoresheet. The big Norwegian is at 3.68 to score first and add to his already enormous tally this weekend.

Citizen of the World

As previously mentioned, we think the game will be more open than anticipated, given the pace and quality of attacking players on display. Both teams to score and City to win is at 2.69.
