Aston Villa vs Manchester United: Preview, Odds, Tips & More

Two of the Premier League’s biggest clubs lock horns in Sunday’s early kick-off as Aston Villa host Manchester United.

With Erik ten Hag’s job on the line and Unai Emery’s side riding the crest of a wave, it should be an absolute barnstormer in Birmingham.

Aston Villa vs Manchester United Preview

The contrast in the mood of the two camps must be quite something after differing midweek adventures.

Villa beat Bayern Munich 1-0 in the Champions League on Wednesday thanks to a late goal from super sub Jhon Duran, a victory which ranks as arguably their greatest of the 21st century.

The day after, United drew 3-3 at FC Porto in the Europa League after leading 2-0. Harry Maguire’s injury-time equaliser salvaging something for Ten Hag’s wounded soldiers.

But while the Red Devils were not defeated in Portugal, confidence levels must be low after another dismal defensive display.

Matthijs de Ligt and Lisandro Martinez are battling to save their spots in the starting XI after being hauled off in the second half against Porto, while Diogo Dalot’s struggles at left-back are only continuing.

United’s inability to manage games is quite startling and if they play in a similar manner at Villa Park, Unai Emery’s side will have a field day.

Duran, Ollie Watkins and Morgan Rogers are three players who can really exploit the space left in behind by United’s defence, while midfield duo Youri Tielemans and Amadou Onana should fancy their chances of dominating whoever Ten Hag names in his XI.

Perhaps the only positive news is that Marcus Rashford should be fit, although Ten Hag’s decision to sub him off at half-time after a great display against Porto was rather bewildering and almost sums up the current chaos at Old Trafford.

Drama levels akin to a soap opera are to be expected at Villa Park on Sunday afternoon!

Aston Villa vs Manchester United Odds

Villa are slight favourites here at 2.24, while United are priced at 3.02 for an away victory. The draw looks good value at 3.67.

Watkins (5.70) and Duran (7.10) are the favourites to open the scoring, while Zirkzee is priced at 7.20 in this market.

Aston Villa vs Manchester United Betting Tips

Bet Builder: Aston Villa to win, over 1.5 goals and over 8.5 corners @ 3.40

If you fancy a Villa victory, this Bet Builder looks a great avenue to go down in order to boost your odds. With so much attacking threat on show, goals and corners should not be hard to come by.

Morgan Rogers to score anytime @ 3.30

After opening his account in the 2-2 draw with Ipswich last weekend, Rogers will be eyeing up more goals. Against a United defence struggling to contain anybody, we fancy the in-form Englishman to add to his tally.
