Power Slap 9 is now tantalisingly close, with Abu Dhabi the stage for the October 24 event.
It promises to be a night full of drama – and the perfect warm-up act for UFC 308, which is also taking place in Abu Dhabi at the end of the month.
So, ahead of Power Slap’s latest chapter, NetBet has decided to take a look back at five of the best knockouts seen at the eight previous live events.
Of course, there have been plenty of other stunning KOs – particularly from Power Slap 9 headliner Da Crazy Hawaiian – but this quintet really caught the eye with their beautiful brutality and execution. So we thought it was only fair to put them in the spotlight.
Coltin Cole vs Cameron Bates (Power Slap 3)
Cole, nicknamed ‘The Truth’, lit up Power Slap 3 with his devastating KO of Bates.
While Cole was accused of flinching on several occasions when receiving a slap, no one can take away his outstanding second-round blow which secured victory.
Cole’s right-handed strike was so powerful that it sent Bates tumbling to the canvas.
Bates tried to get back up but failed in his efforts and the officials rightly declared him unfit to continue.
Logan Greenhalgh vs Jonathan Correa (Power Slap 4)
In terms of aesthetics, this is perhaps the greatest knockout seen at a major Power Slap event since its inception.
A heavyweight contest which had it all, Greenhalgh landed the decisive slap in the second round and it was quite spectacular – to say the very least.
From the moment of impact, Correa was knocked into a different dimension and he fell straight onto his back in almost a perfect sleeping position.
The ‘lights went out’ in Correa’s head and Greenhalgh claimed a memorable win.
Cody Cox vs Bryan Dozier (Power Slap 5)
Yet another brutal second-round knockout that actually seems to get more and more brutal with every single replay.
Cox’s perfectly-executed right-handed blow sent Dozier into another world altogether and nearly rearranged his facial features.
Dozier fell to the canvas in a seated position and looked completely out of it.
And his attempt to stand on two feet and regain focus mirrored that of Bambi on ice – and Cox was duly awarded a crucial win by way of knockout.
Damien Dibbel vs Ryan Phillips (Power Slap 7)
A fightly aptly nicknamed by Power Slap as the ‘Fall of the King’ saw a quite extraordinary finish from knockout artist Dibbel.
Phillips, who goes by ‘The King of Kings’, challenged current heavyweight champion Dibbel at Power Slap 7 and it certainly did not go to plan for him.
In round four of the title fight, Dibbel silenced any doubters he may have had with one of the most extraordinary slaps in the promotion’s entire history.
Dibbel’s blow left Phillips sprawled out on his back and the referee took one look at his beaten face and correctly waved the contest off. It really was the slap equivalent of getting hit by a ten-tonne truck.
Vernon Cathey vs Austin Turpin (Power Slap 8)
At the last Power Slap event, we witnessed one of the great knockouts in this light heavyweight clash.
Cathey has the knack of delivering powerful blows that virtually shake the entire arena – and this was one of his best ever.
As slap-fighting goes, it was close to perfection from ‘The Mechanic’, a lethal combination of strength and finesse.
Turpin snarled as he took the huge slap from Cathey, but his face quickly changed as he slowly but surely hit the canvas.
There are not many fighters who would have been left standing if they were in the same position.
